Jerrie I rarely give a book 5 stars. But Michael Connelly's The Late Show easily earned this rating. Interesting plot, Det. Renee Ballard is an interesting heroine, and I eagerly await the next book in this series. I have added a word to my vocabulary to describe this book: "unputdownable."

Cindy Ehrenreich I totally agree. Renee is a great addition to Connelly's cast of protagonists. She is a real bamf. I can't wait for future books to find out more about her circumstances. Why is she homeless? Out of necessity or choice?

Cindy, I am without a doubt sure it is by choice, but there may be some deep-seated psychological factor behind it; and, for some reason, she doesn't want people to be able to find her anywhere except her workplace.

Can't wait to find out what led up to it

Doesn't this reflect her Hawaii lifestyle?

sublimosa Overall I enjoyed the book, but I was disappointed that (view spoiler) Was anyone else annoyed by that? Also, I had the whodunit spoiled for me about 2/3 through the book when I was looking at the questions posed on the GoodReads "The Late Show" page. Someone posted the bad guy without spoilering it. Grrr!

Mark Mindel I want Renee' Ballard to hook up on a case with Bosch! Loved the subtle mention of Bosch (a victim was an extra in a Bosch movie). Renee' is a strong character and hope this becomes a new series. Would like for her to go back to days and get her LT to admit what he did to her!

Renee will team up with Bosch in the next book. "Dark Sacred Night" will be released in Oct 2018.

YES. I so very much agree! Would that have happened to Bosch? Hell naw. It was a very weak spot in the book, IMO. I will take another chance on a Ballard novel, but only one.
