Summer is almost over... YAY! I can't wait for pumpkin season - I will be creating an awesome pumpkin. What are you excited for this coming fall?

Please be sure to total your July Take it or Leave it and add to the July thread.

This month the challenges are:

1. Read a book with a black cover or spine
2. Read a book with a cover similar to The Very Hungry Caterpillar or with the word caterpillar in the title
3. Re-read a book you were required to read in high school that you didn't like at the time
4. Read a book about a country being conquered by an evil villain
5. Read a book that reminds you of your childhood
6. Read a book about being or cooking healthy
7. Read a book about someone overcoming an abusive relationship

Happy reading y'all!

Melissa | 58 comments We only have two books with the word caterpillar in the title that is not a children's book in the CPL collection when I searched, and neither of the descriptions made me want to put them on hold. Did you have any books in mind when you picked that category?

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments I was looking for books with a cover similar to The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but couldn't find any (in my Nook library), did you have any specific title in mind that we could use as an example?

I was wondering how literal this challenge was, because I kind a think Emma Donoghue's Room kinda reminds me of the cover in the sense you have some primary/secondary colors against a white background.

I was sitting at my desk on Friday trying to think up a challenge that we haven't already attempted and when I looked down..... BAM!!!! There was a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, damaged and sad that it would never be circulated again. I thought - Eric Carle and Bill Martin make amazing picture books maybe I should incorporate this into a challenge. Well it seems it is a real challenge.

I am amending this challenge so that you can find a book with a cover similar to the hungry caterpillar - maybe an abstract one or has similar colors or simple illustrations. Also, I will add to the challenge that the book can be about a metamorphosis - that should help you find more titles or interesting plots. Thanks for all the feedback!

Melissa | 58 comments I found a book on Hoopla called The Girl with the Caterpillar Eyebrows by Lisa Ditchkoff. I'm about halfway through, and I still haven't decided if I like it or not. I love the Eric Carle classic book, but it does seem that the books get beat up in circulation at the library. I'm taking that to mean that they are well loved.

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments I only read two books that fit your challenge (I started Fellowship of the Ring- which could have counted for 2, but didn't finish).
They are:
1) Black cover- Torn: Rescuing the Gospel from the Gays-vs.-Christians Debate by Justin Lee
and
4) The Paris Spy by Susan Elia Macneal (set in Paris during WWII).
