Beth (k9odyssey) Share your ideas and suggestions for next year.

Valerie Brown I've enjoyed the different genre/month theme we explored this year (and of course there are still more genres to get to).

I think your idea of different authors per month could be interesting (I think we'd have to vote on the twelve authors before December though).

We could explore the lists GR has: Best Books of the Decade. (links here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3... )
My bias would be to pick from the decade lists from 1880s to 1990s. We could nominate a book from the top 30 (for example) and then vote on them.

Beth (k9odyssey) We could progress from pre-1800 though 2018. Might be interesting to move through the years this way. We could still be mindful of genres so that we don't end up picking too many from one genre and each month would be a unique author of course. We would decide on who and what to read for each month. It will take some planning up front but less work for me on a monthly basis next year. This is just one idea. We can do something completely different. Keep thinking and sharing. Once we comes up with 5 ideas or so, we can vote.

Pre 1800 -January
1800-1850 -February
1850-1875-March
1875-1890-April
1891-1910-May
1911-1925-June
1926-1940-July
1941-1960-August
1961-1975-September
1976-1990-October
1991-2008-November
2008-2018-December (classic to be)

I like this idea. I don't read many pre-1900 books, but we could probably pick a few that would interest me.

Looks like a good idea to me

Beth (k9odyssey) Last call for 2018 theme ideas/feedback. I will be creating a poll with a few different options this weekend.

Beth (k9odyssey) Based on feedback, I think we will go with the idea of a time period each month and then pick classic authors from that time period, being mindful to pick from different genres to keep things interesting.

So here is the list of time periods. My question is: Do you want to progress in order:
Pre 1800 -January
1800-1850 -February
1850-1875-March
1875-1890-April
1891-1910-May
1911-1925-June
1926-1940-July
1941-1960-August
1961-1975-September
1976-1990-October
1991-2008-November
2008-2018-December (classic to be)

OR

Mix it up randomly. I see benefits both ways. I like the idea of jumping around but at the same time, it would be interesting to read in order through the decades to see how the underlying social and historical themes progress. What do you think?

In order?

Mix it up?

No preference?

George P. My 1st thought was "in order", but after a little more thought I think I would prefer to mix it somewhat because a lot of books > 100 years old would be perhaps dull. Rather than just random mixing, I would alternate an older decade with a newer one each month if it were just up to me.

Valerie Brown Just like George, I thought in order is fine (get the potentially boring ones out of the way.... ha, ha!), and may work with my real life schedule better.

However, I do like the suggestion George put forward of alternating really old with 'newer'.
