The "USS Merrimack" series by R.M. Meluch.Old fashioned military sci-fi/Space Opera, a little bit of Star Trek, a little bit of Battlestar Galactica, a little bit of Starship Troopers, and a huge dollop of I, Claudius.
Six books in the series so far, starting with The Myriad.
No problem, happy to spread the word. :-)Or if you're in the mood for something a bit silly, then there's the "Space Captain Smith" series by Toby Frost.
Wonderfully funny sci-fi that reads like a cross between Flash Gordon, Red Dwarf, and The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Five books so far (with a sixth due in October), starting with Space Captain Smith.
The Expanse by James SA Corey! It's my favorite series being published right now, full stop. Great representation of women, queer people, people of color, etc, and a kickass story with a found-family dynamic at the center that ticks all the good boxes. The first book is Leviathan Wakes; it's also now a show on SyFy that is excellent. :)
I couldn't barely start DUNE. My fault I guess. I like David Weber's Honor Harrington series and Safehold series. Also like Campbell's Lost Fleet series. When I start a new series I so want it to be good but I typically don't read 20 pages and I can see that this author sure likes to type.
I don't like em all. Good luck.
