Interesting start to the book so far!! Literally only read chapter one but the take on faeries already has me interested. Nothing quite like starting a fantasy book with a drunk guy XD
Kirstie "
I'm only 30 pages in and I thought the same, first line being about needing to pee and being discovered peeing what a way to intro a character XD

OK so I'm done XD Sorry Kirstie but the reading quest challenge has me speeding through books this month!
I loved the mix of Old society in the nether and modern mundane world, I adored Cathy, she wasn't epically strong or particulary baddass but she had a strong mind and a kind heart. Also her family fucking sucks and needs to be set on fire.
I think I started off reading this like it was a YA so seeing her beaten and her mother telling her she shouldn't have been born made me want to cry, scream, and kick them.
I was meh on Will, he's written fantastically and has the sexism that is expected from a guy 300 years behind. Lucy was an unexpected fave and I hope we see more of her in the next books.
Cathy and the gargoyle were my fave, I loved how they did the dislocated soul and the fairy lands.
THAT ending though, really were going to leave it on Cathy being knocked out by her asshole mother and about to get married!!!

It's been awhile since I read this, so some of my recollection's admittedly fuzzy. I thought Between Two Thorns was a bit unusual, it's not quite any genre, but thought the world(s) were pretty fascinating in how they interacted with each other.
I really didn't like Will, at any point, and I found Cathy to be a bit whiny at times as well. I know Will's heart's in the right place, but his unwillingness to think beyond himself (ditto Cathy) really bothered me at times.
I liked the gargoyle, and generally found Max's bits the most interesting.
Yeah, the ending wasn't amazing for me. I'm a big believer in giving some kind of closure, even if your book's part of a bigger series.
The Dragon Reads It's super unusual thats for sure but I quite enjoyed that about it.
The ending was a bit of a kick, but I'm excited to read the next eventually and see what Cathy does and how her character arc progresses :D

I think I agree on both sides. I found that by the last third of the book I was enjoying the story immensely!! I'd really like to have seen the marriage thing sorted within this book as it was such a major part of the story but I'm also cool with the cliff hanger, too.
I didn't like Will. He tries to be the character you like and two seconds later reminds you why you hate his sexist arse haha. Cathy was alright, by far not even close to some of my favourite heroines. She had a lot going on but sometimes I just wanted to slap her and tell her to pull it together or she'll continue to make it worse for herself.
The abuse she puts up with though was heart breaking.
