How about a school, college or university theme, since September is the beginning of the school year in many places?
There aren't too many literary anniversaries in September 2017, but here are a handful of suggestions:The American short story writer, O. Henry (pen name for William Sydney Porter), was born on 11th September 1862 - he is particularly well known around the world for The Gift of the Magi.
It is the 150th anniversary of the publication of Karl Marx’s Das Kapital on 14th September.
J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit was first published on 21st September 1937.
Not a bookish anniversary, but here in the UK we will remember the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, which took place in London on 6th September 1997.
Perhaps one of these will provide a spark!
In South East Asia, around this time is the Ghost Festival or Hungry Ghost Festival, also known as Zhongyuan Festival. (in 2017, its from August 22th - September 19th)Read something ghostly, creepy, supernatural?
It's true that October fits better for creepy in the western world, but not everyone in the group is from this region.
