Daniel Barnett | 42 comments I'm not sure where Tim Curran falls on the unknown/well-known spectrum, but I hadn't heard of him until recently, so I thought I'd mention his name here since it doesn't look like anyone else has yet.

Dead Sea is essentially The Mist with an ocean setting--and a healthy dose of steroids. A group of men crossing The Atlantic to take on an undesirable job in the jungle find themselves in a much more undesirable position when their boat enters a heavy fog and emerges in another dimension, where the ocean is thick and red and filled with perverse, frightening creatures.

The novel can be frustrating at times. There's far too much description in places (often redundant), but so much of the story is just plain genius. If you like cosmic horror, definitely check it out.

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) Thanks for the rec! I'm a huge horror fan and I'm always looking for something different.

Daniel Barnett | 42 comments Sure! Same here :)

It'll be cool to hear what you think. I just picked up the novella collection of Curran's called Blood, Bones, and Bullets, and I'm really excited to see what he can do in a shorter format.

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) I've heard the name in passing, but neer gave the author serious consideration. I'll add him to my list :)

Jason Parent | 123 comments Dead Sea was a fantastic read, albeit a little clunky at times. But so atmospheric! I could feel the fog upon me as the group crept through it.

Kaisersoze What Jason said! Wade through the 15 to 40% section, and the rest of the book is pure horror gold.

Jason Parent | 123 comments Tim Curran doesn't get much wrong. His books (at least those I have read) haven't been mind-blowing literary genius, but they are perfect for what they are: good, in your face horror fun sure to satisfy. He earns me as a fan for sure.
