Irredeemable Shag | 3 comments Question for the group... we know the Doctor and Susan stole the TARDIS on Gallifrey from the repair bays. Has there ever been an expanded universe story where the previous owner was revealed? I can't think of one. If not, kinda surprised this never came up.

Irredeemable Shag | 3 comments Sorry for the bother. A friend pointed me to the answer on the TARDIS wiki.

The TARDIS was once owned by the Time Lady Marianna (AUDIO: The Abandoned) and later by the Time Lord Marnal, and due to his exile at the time of the Doctor's procurement of the TARDIS, he claimed that the Doctor stole it. (PROSE: The Gallifrey Chronicles) Other accounts differ to this, and implied it came from the general, government-controlled "stockpile" of TARDISes after the model had been officially decommissioned

I vaguely remember Marnal, though it's been 12 years since I read The Gallifrey Chronicles...

For the most part, I think most people think the TARDIS came from the cradles where she lay abandoned (that's the way I think of her). However, DW is so expansive, that it can encompass any and all explanations. :)

Tegan: You mean you're deliberately choosing to go on the run from your own people, in a rackety old TARDIS?

Fifth Doctor: Why not? After all, that's how it all started.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2430 comments I had the impression that Tardis are not like cars, privately owned, but rather they are more like military transport or owned by the government, like those trucks that plow the roads in winter and the Doctor found one that was an older 'decommissioned' model.
