Peter | 27 comments Norman Hidden (1913-2006) was an English author of poetry and prose. He was founder and editor of the magazine New Poetry and was for a time Chairman of the Poetry Society.

He is one of the "fellow travellers" treated in Amongst Those Left: The British Experimental Novel 1940-1980 based on his 1973 book Dr. Kink & His Old-Style Boarding School - a collage of autobiography, poetry, and fiction.

Apart from Say It Aloud (1972), an anthology of verse he edited for schools, his books were mostly if not entirely self-published which is perhaps one reason why he is so well-named. None was even listed on GR till recently, let alone rated or reviewed.

Even the contents of some titles are a bit of a mystery. Leaving aside his poetry and autobiography, Caravan Summer and Other Stories (1999) is what it suggests - a collection of short stories - and so presumably is Europa and Other Stories (2006). What To Do About Nick? (2006) and The Long Journey (2007) could be fiction - or could be something else.

BURIED certainly. Worth reading? Not so sure...

Thanks for this. Intriguing despite the lukewarm recommendation (which I appreciate -- obviously not all lost works are actually essential).
