I LOVED the first book and so expectations were high for this one. The historical details were great, but the time in the army camp was a bit slow. I loved Isabel in the first book, and I didn't feel the same way about Curzon, nor did I like Isabel as well either. Things picked up in the 2nd part of the story, but some of the things that happened were a bit far-fetched. Of course, given the current political climate, the subject of slavery is very topical. In one section, Curzon is discussing why the patriots are fighting and his friend replies for freedom from the oppressive british, but then his friend goes on to say that slavery is fine and doesn't see slavery as oppression. In fact, I do think that the author does a good job of representing many of the different viewpoints about slavery that are historically accurate --- but still hard to read in this day and age. I will read the last book in the series.
