I read the book and I loved most of it! I like the idea of combining Christian themes with "adult" literature. It makes things much more relatable. (Even though Josys story is particularly hard to relate to)
Perhaps I should add that the ebook in the US is only available on Kobo and ibooks. (My publisher only informed me AFTER publication that it wouldn't be available on Amazon in the US. You can imagine I was thrilled.)I'll be happy to join the discussion!
Have you ever done something you were afraid to do?In the novel, Jim is challenging Josie to conquer her fear of horses. This scene is based on a personal experience, which had nothing to do with horses.
I was at a team building event together with my mission comrades and our task was to climb a ladder. The ladder was kept upright by four ropes held by four people. The person climbing up was secured by an additional rope.
I had no trouble going up the ladder, but when I reached the top, the trainer told me to climb over and go down on the other side. I instantly knew that I could not do that. It was impossible, even though I had seen another teammember do it only minutes ago. It was a fact in my head that I could not climb over to the other side.
But then the team kicked in. They yelled encouragements at me until I decided to give it a try. What can I say? I managed, somehow. It certainly wasn't very elegant, but I made it down on the other side and was welcomed with back slaps and congratulations.
It was the first time I had ever done something of which I was convinced I couldn't do it. It reset my mind frame completely. I learned that just because something felt impossible, it didn't necessarily have to be impossible. I broke through the walls of my own restrictions. That one little act has truly changed me - as it did for Josie in the story.
So, have you ever done something you were afraid of doing?
