ends with Sir Thomas hoping to remedy Fanny's proposal situation by sending her with her brother William to Portsmouth (before he ships out) to stay with her Price family for a period of time.

It amazes me how each character contributes to Fanny going home to Portsmouth. Sir Thomas cleverly contriving to convince her to change her mind; Edmund hoping to give her a distraction and more time with her family; Mrs. Norris to prove she's more necessary than Fanny; and Fanny herself in the hopes of finding something much different from what awaits.

Shrewd observation, Hannah! It’s a really talented author who can make a simple plot development speak to the personalities of multiple characters at once.
