I mean I know it's the first in a series but "my boss is a dog???? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ " just kindof... happening and never being explained was the craziest thing
Haha oh yeah, I guess it kind of didn't resolve?? I didn't think about it really because a) as you said it's first in the series and b) there was so much buildup about trying to figure out what Sam's ~secret~ was, so to me it was kind of like "oh that's settled, we found out he's secretly a shapeshifter, let's move on". But I guess that's not exactly the end of that.
This whole episode made me want to read some more Laurell K. Hamilton! She started her vampire/werewolf love triangle waaaay back in 1993, and the universe that Sookie Stackhouse inhabits seems to be quite similar, including the bit about an assortment of delightful were-animals (panthers, tigers, rats, swans, bears, etc.). Hamilton is openly polyamorous, and they did help me process my own polyamorous adventures in spite of all the paranormal ridiculousness. Of course, the Anita Blake series started out about as sexy as your average paranormal romance novel and eventually devolves into horror-mysteries sprinkled liberally with paranormal orgies, but it's hard for me to complain about that. I decided that I'm happy you read Sookie Stackhouse so I don't have to, so I can get back to reading ridiculous were-animal erotica instead. I don't think I'd like Sookie as a character, and I know exactly what I'm getting into when I pick up another installment of Anita Blake.
Ohh interesting! I have never read any Laurel K. Hamilton and didn't realize that's what it's about. Sticking with that seems like a very reasonable choice...I think Sookie is much more open to vampires than to polyamory.
