A companion piece to the "Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens" character novels, Star Wars: Before the Awakening is an anthology book that focuses on the lives of Rey, Finn, and Poe before the events of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

This little juvenile fiction book was OK. I love the Star Wars movies but just not into reading them, but that is OK. It's not for everyone.

I did enjoy each character.

Finn had doubt about doing what was right and what was ordered of him to do.

Rey had trust issues. She preferred to be by herself. When her put trust in others, something she worked hard for was taken from her.

Poe strives to serve and lead, but others want to take that from.

Overall, it was an OK book. My 11 year old enjoyed it.
