Akram- I had both the French and English copy with me as I read through The Little Prince. I am slowly learning French so I used The Little Prince as a language learner book! You should read it in English, it has always fascinated me how books are translated from one language to another. A translation can change the whole feel of the book! I'd be interested to hear your take on the English translation.

Thanks for the link, Mea!!
Hmm. So I just finished and really don't know what to think. Perhaps if I had read this as a child and thus first appreciated the 'magic' of the book, then re-reading it as an adult and exploring themes would be valuable. However, I did not. The story was extremely random and I didn't really follow it all that well. I'm sure that I'm missing something because everyone else seems to hold it in such high regard. Having thought about it and read others reviews I definitely understand the didactic themes of the book but I'm not a huge fan of over-analysing literature so I'm not sure where my rating lies on an enjoyment level.

I think I understand how you felt about the book. A lot of the "magic" and emotional moments are probably based in a fair amount of nostalgia. I didn't read it as a kid, like you, so I don't have as strong of a personal connection with it either.
I personally related most to the themes about growing up and staying connected with your inner child. I also enjoyed the illustrations, and some of the language and imagery struck me as quite beautiful.
It's more like a Biblical parable than a traditional narrative in some ways, and that doesn't work for everyone. So I don't think that you're "missing something," it's all just a matter of personal taste :)
I would recommend checking out the film adaptation! It's a Netflix original film, so it's only available there. It blends computer animation with stop-motion animation beautifully, plus it's a more accessible version of the story from the book; it feels kind of like a Pixar movie in fact!
