Jane (PS) | 24484 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Team Captain - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme of CANDY LAND, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 6 September.

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2.

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A Annoucement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

Jane (PS) | 24484 comments Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts.

For the initial selection post Option 1 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please insert a link to the qualifying bookshelf/list.
If the theme is based off the bookcover or a letter in the title etc, please just repeat the theme.

For the initial selection post Option 2 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.

For the completion post I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review

Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.

If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

Jane (PS) | 24484 comments I'll be tracking each team's progress separately, using the Captain's summary in each team's thread to check for accuracy.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 675 comments Hiya, checking in. 😀 Will post a proper intro when I get back to my computer later today :-)

Pam | 1048 comments Hi team. I'm Pam and I live in Virginia right outside Washington DC. I'm a high school special education teacher. We started school this week and I am sooooo tired right now. This is my 7th Ptp challenge and I even managed to be on a winning team once (still exercising those bragging rights)! I read romance, mysteries, some ya and other assorted fiction

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 675 comments Hiya! I am Nikk. I am from Sydney Australia and work as a corporate sales co-ordinator for a gym chain here. I am also the mother of a gorgeous five year old in her first year of school so i am tired all the time LOL! This is my first Ptp challenge and I am looking forward to it. I have been getting more involved in reading challenges this year and I have found that it has really upped the number of books I have read this year. I mostly read fantasy- YA and otherwise, paranormal romance, urban fantasy and paranormal cozies though i very much a mood reader so will really read anything that catches my fantasy . Can't wait to get started! :-)

Jane | 548 comments Hi. I am Jane and I'm from Denmark. My favourite genres are fantasy and paranormal. I end up reading a lot of romace and cozies as well.

message 16: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) HI I am Teresa from Ohio, Mom to two teenagers 15 and 18. I work day shift at Mcdonalds after being on third shift for 8 yrs.

I use to read mystery/thriller/suspense and nothing else for years so either I burned myself out on that or RL cause a 2 yr reading slump.

I decided this year I LOVE to read and make sure I do it again, so usually reading 3-4 books at a time, I have branched out to YA ( daughter has certain requirements on reading a book so i "preview" a lot and got hooked on this genre) chic lit and contermporary fiction I discovered this year and still read mysteries.

message 17: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) @pam glad to see you are expert on this game, I will probably have questions I get confused easily.

and it is so exciting to see other countries besides USA here, I ddint know Goodreads was global.

Pam | 1048 comments Welcome all. We are quite the international team. The first theme will be posted Friday September 8 at 6 pm (Eastern Standard Time). Sometimes Jane gives us a break and posts the first one early but we have the same amount of time to read.

For us this means-adjusted for the shift in time zones (math is not my thing but I think this is right)
Pam and Teresa see it at 6 pm
Louise would see it at 11 pm
Jane would see it at midnight
Nikk would see it at 8 am Saturday morning
Ladybug would see it at midnight

Be sure you have checked the "Add to my update feed box/notify me when people reply" boxes on the page so you see posts.

message 23: by Pam (new)

Pam | 1048 comments I will post the theme at the top of the page under message 5. Usually I post it Friday evening--I'll let you know if there is going to be a problem and then you can check Jane's post. I will check that your posts conform to the theme choice or the option 2 rule.

Pam | 1048 comments So for the name....I like alliteration. Throw those suggestions out there. Rainbow and Gumdrops have been claimed by other teams :(

Can't wait to read with you all! I should say in the interest of full disclosure, I loathe the Candyland game because it takes so freaking long to play. When my kids were little, I would stack the deck ahead of time.

Week 1

The Convenient Mail Order Bride by Ruth Ann Nordin

Date Read: 07.09.2017
Rating: 3
Review
I barely gave it 3 stars. I've read some of this author's books and I liked them much more than this one.
Phoebe answers a mail ordered ad and goes West with her mother to marry Abe. When she arrives she discovers that the ad was posted by Abe's half brother. Not being able to return back East and not wanting to work in a saloon she convinces Abe to let them stay for a month and see if they suit.
I like that Nordin introduces prejudice as a theme, but apart that I really couldn't connect with the characters. The story was slow and there wasn't any chemistry between Phoebe and Abe. It has a neat ending and that's it.
All in all a nice enough read, but not something that will make me reread it again or recommend it.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 675 comments Teresa in Ohio wrote: "how does option two work?

for option 2 , it is to read a book read by one of your team mates in the last 6 months that was rated 3 stars or more . The date Jane gave out with the theme announcement is the earliest the book can have been read by your team mates. This book does not have to fit the theme of the week (i.e. if you choose this option for this week's theme, the title doesn't have to start with C"

I think that's the main gist :-)

Review:
It is no secret that I love everything this author couple writes and Wildfire did not disappoint.
Nevada and Connor's relationship has developed strongly from book to book and I like that Connor is not always the strong one despite the powers he possess.
They also do a great job of Nevada's family and describing the troubles of having the kind of power they have.
I really, really hope there will be more books in this series.

Pam | 1048 comments Hi guys. I did not fall off the edge of the earth. I have actually been out at night both Thursday and Friday which never happens and I actually had to work this morning which also never happens. Looks like everything is proceeding her with just Teresa and myself to post and two people already finished!

Ladybug, I am going to count your book as Option 1--it begins with a C according to the rules (where little words A/the don't count if I remember correctly and if I haven't well no harm, no foul)
