Jane (PS) | 24727 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Team Captain - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme of CANDY LAND, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 6 September.

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2.

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A Annoucement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

Jane (PS) | 24727 comments Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts.

For the initial selection post Option 1 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please insert a link to the qualifying bookshelf/list.
If the theme is based off the bookcover or a letter in the title etc, please just repeat the theme.

For the initial selection post Option 2 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.

For the completion post I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review

Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.

If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

Jane (PS) | 24727 comments I'll be tracking each team's progress separately, using the Captain's summary in each team's thread to check for accuracy.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Hey JC. Glad you made it out okay!

There's no need for you to reserve any spots. I have them as Captain for tracking purposes :)

Hi JC! Happy to hear you and your family are safe! I am about a half hour from you in LaPorte. It was rough for a few days but compared to what others are still going through we feel lucky.

I am a romance lover too! Although, the more angst the better. Which means I adore love triangles! Lol. And no Historical Fiction. I just cant do them.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Name ideas while we wait for the rest of the team to check in? I'll be sending friend requests to everyone soon.

You have it right. No category is necessary for Option 2. I almost always use it once every round. ☺

message 16: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) For Option 2, you have to choose from someone on the team's books. You do not have to make it work for the category nor do you need to read for the category should you choose option 2. It must be at least 3 stars and 100 pages and within the time frame in order to count.

You'll make two posts each week. One with the book you are selecting and one with your completion.

message 17: by Heather (new)

Heather | 415 comments ...and Jane WILL catch you if your posts are missing something! :D

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Yes she will! She's awesome like that.

message 19: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I'm sure you'll be able to find something when the category gets called. If not, option two! It's a fun game and I am happy to be back for another round.

message 20: by EnglishElle (new)

EnglishElle | 40 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Elle (EnglishElle), and I'm brand new to this challenge like some of you. It sounds like a lot of fun, so I figured I'd have to give it a try! I'm from Texas. I can't believe how many members on this team are from Texas.

I agree with JC and Heather about the group names. Those are my two favorite as well. Does our first challenge start on Labor Day?

message 21: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Welcome! First call will be this Friday the 8th (the day after my birthday)

message 22: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24727 comments Stacie wrote: "Yes she will! She's awesome like that."

LOL Heather & Stacie!! I'm the whip-cracker!!

I am hoping to call the first theme early (as usual) this coming Wednesday but we need a bit of time for everyone to report in to their teams and for every team to pick their name :)

An early call on Wednesday simply means an extra couple of days for your first week, finding your feet and getting the posts right. We'll then revert to the Friday calls :D

message 23: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katkattrinn) | 629 comments I team! I am sorry if I am a little late :)
Busy week. I starting University so I am exploding to me a new city.
I live in Lithuania.

message 24: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1728 comments Hi team! This is a new game to me as well...so many newbies! I am not from Texas....sad panda....it felt as if I needed to be for a bit to fit in LOL. I have family in DFW area so I'm gonna call myself an honoree Texan by blood. I actually live in Iowa. I work only 4 nights a week but put in anywhere from 10-12 hours so my computer time on Saturday-Tuesday is pretty limited. I work second/third shift and sleep during the day. You usually won't see me online before noon CST unless I haven't gone to bed yet (which is why I'm on at 6:30am right now LOL)
My reading has been abysmal so far this year so I'm hoping a new challenge will help that. So my last 6 month read book shelf is pretty sparse. Sorry for those who were looking for some Option 2's from my list there are only 6 or so. I am currently in a romance kick even though I love a good thriller too. When it comes to romance I will read contemporary, historical, paranormal, and romantic suspense. I don't like m/m, bdsm, erotica, or New Adult. Dislike Cheating themes but will tolerate if the story line supports it. I also enjoy some YA but tend to go more paranormal YA than anything else. Mysteries are good too. I'm struggling with cozies right now and prefer more, um, evil killing in my mysteries, like Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen, John Sandford types.

As far as our team name, I'm not a creative person so coming up with ideas is difficult for me but I'll be happy with anything the group likes.

message 25: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I think we are all here now!! Is everyone okay with Candy Strippers as our name?

message 26: by Heather (new)

Heather | 415 comments Wow, I go to sleep and miss everyone arriving. Lol.

Hello Elle, Katherine and Christina! I think we are going to have a lot of fun with this challenge!

@Christina, I KNOW we have been together on another big challenge but can't remember which. Its driving me crazy! Lol Were you on the Gods challenge (Norse)?

@Stacie, I think the Candy Strippers is it! Are YOU good with that name too?

message 27: by EnglishElle (new)

EnglishElle | 40 comments I love Candy Strippers, too! I think it will be perfect.

Hi Katherine and Christina! It's nice to meet y'all!

J.C. - Yes, Harvey has affected my area. We lost power for a few days, but we're okay now. I think the scariest part of Harvey was going to the grocery stores. It had an apocalyptic feel, especially since most the shelves were bare or people were fighting over food. I'm eager for everything to get back to normal. I remember Katrina, but I was not affected by it. Ike affected my family and I the most. We had to evacuate for that hurricane. I hope everyone a part of this team who is in the Harvey area is okay!

message 28: by EnglishElle (new)

EnglishElle | 40 comments Do we need to make a 6 month shelf for this challenge?

message 29: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) No, no need to make any extra shelves.

message 30: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I'll submit Candy Strippers :)

Lol, thats a great way to describe the stores! " an apocalyptic feel" I dont know about you guys but I still cant find an actual loaf of bread. Only rolls and stuff. I was still living in Maryland during Katrina but also, for me personally, Ike was WAY worse. And no place had power. Every street, intersection, everyone would take turns going.

message 32: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1728 comments Heather, You have a memory on you! I had to look back at my bookshelf to be certain but yes I did the Gods Challenge--Team Norse! That was in the middle of 2015!

Candy Strippers is awesome....good job picking ladies.

I can't wait to start this challenge. I was looking at everyone's read shelves for the last 6 months and I'm excited to see our Lithuanian teammate has a lot of books in common with me (shout out to you Katherine!)

message 33: by Heather (new)

Heather | 415 comments @Christina the only reason I probably remember is I was the captain and that was a massive spreadsheet & we won!! Lol

I can't wait to start either!

message 34: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I plan on putting all the potential categories we could have called in post 5 and then tracking in post 6. It might take me a bit to do that but keep your eyes out. I'm mostly doing this for me so I don't have to copy from the main thread every week when there is a call. Call it laziness, call it organization :)

message 35: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katkattrinn) | 629 comments @Christina: Wow I did read quite a lot of books from your TBR shelf.

message 38: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Heather wrote: "@Stacie, Im just waiting on Katherine. ;)"

Okey doke. I'm sure she will accept soon :)

message 39: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I borrowed this from GreenFairy's team. I think it's a great overview of how the game is played and may be helpful to those that haven't played before.

On Fridays, Jane calls a theme. Some require reading a book from one of the lists, others don't.
You post your selection here (Week # Selection, Theme, Title, Page Count, How it fits)
Then you read it.
After you're done reading it, post your completion in a separate post (Week # Completion, Theme, Title, Rating, Short Review)

Option 2: A teammate's shelf, rated 3 or more stars in the last 6 months. Can use a series substitution.

Selections must be made within the week of the Theme call.

Just don't have more than 2 books that need to be read for the next theme call.

For everyone...any issues at all: Don't hesitate to let me know!
