Eʟᴇᴍᴇɴᴛs ᴀɴᴅ Sᴜʙᴇʟᴇᴍᴇɴᴛs
Every spellcaster has an element that he/she can cast magic in. Spellcasters can only use magic in one element unless that spellcaster is a Witchlight (See the 'Species Guide' topic). Under each element is a series of subelements. Here they are as listed:

Eᴀʀᴛʜ:
~Rock
~Metal
~Life forces (i.e. Can control plants/talk to animals)

Wᴀᴛᴇʀ:
~Ice
~Water
~Blood

Fɪʀᴇ:
~Electricity
~Flame
~Light and Shadows

Aɪʀ:
~Air
~Weather
~Sound

Some subelements such as life forces and weather are extremely difficult to learn which is why each element is separated into subelements. This make classes both easier to teach and learn from. For example, if a spellcaster's element was water, they would be taking ice studies and water studies as two of their classes.

Every spellcaster must have a Grimoire or a Spellbook. The difference between the two being that Spellbooks are filled with common spells that everyone knows while Grimoires are given to the spellcaster empty and they must fill them with their own spells. New spells can be easily made, but take a lot of time and energy. Often times a lot of studying as well. All students at Elysium receive a standard student spellbook, but they are encouraged to have a Grimoire. A spellcaster can have many spellbooks, but they can only have one Grimoire. Once a spell is written in their Grimoire, then a spellcaster may use it. Without a spellbook or Grimoire, it is impossible to control magic completely and it often gets out of hand. It is forbidden to use magic if you do not have a spellbook or Grimoire.

Spellbooks and Grimoires are bound to their owner's soul. This means that spellcasters do not need to have a spellbook of Grimoire on them to cast a spell. As long as they remember the spell they are fine. All spellcasters need a spellbook or Grimoire even if they don't need to speak their spells out loud. Warlocks, Wizards, and Ocular Witches must think their spell in order to use it while regular witches must speak it.

All Warlocks have a mark on their right hand either on the palm or back of the hand. The mark is usually about the size of the palm of the person's hand, just a bit smaller and the mark is always black. Without it, they are unable to use magic. There are five possible marks for a Warlock to have...

1. Eye of the Sun: A Warlock with this mark is either a Fire element Warlock or a Witchlight with fire as one of their elements.

2. Moon God's Circle: Water Element Warlock or Witchlight that has Water as one of their elements.

3. Earth Diamond: Earth Element Warlock or Witchlight that had Earth as one of their elements.

5. Kiss of Beelzebub: Warlock with any element, but can not be a Witchlight.

Conductors are something only used by Wizards. Conduct magic from the Wizard's Grimoire or Spellbook and turn it into an actual spell. Conductors can be almost anything, but they all must have a soul gem on them. Soul gems tend to look either blue, green, purple, or red, depending on the type of Wizard. Blue for water, green for earth, purple for air, and red for fire. So wands, canes, staffs, rings, swords, daggers, brooches, and jewelry can all be conductors. A witchlight's soul gem often is a mix of colors of the elements they can use. It always looks rather tie dye or rather brown.

Sᴘᴏᴋᴇɴ Mᴀɢɪᴄ
Spoken magic is done only by witches. No other species needs to or can use spoken magic. It is comprised of very simple commands said in Latin. For example, for a fire witch to set something on fire the would say "incendo", the Latin word for ignite, while focusing on the object they wish to burn. Same goes for all spoken magic. It is just the Latin phrases for basic commands in magic.

Oᴄᴜʟᴀʀ Mᴀɢɪᴄ
Ocular magic is really quite simple. Witches gifted with the ability of ocular magic can use spoken magic, but it feels very unnatural and uncomfortable for the user. Ocular magic is much like using a conductor, but instead of carrying a wand around, the conductor is the spellcaster's eyes. When a spellcaster uses ocular magic, their eyes will flash either bright gold or bright silver. This depends entirely on their character. Shy, introverted, and more secluded witches have eyes that flash silver. More outgoing and social witches have eyes that flash gold.

Example of Outgoing witch:

Every Witchlight has an eye that glows silver while the other looks normal. Just like a warlock's mark, if a Witchlight loses or damages that eye, then they will lose their magic and become human. This eye can be hidden by the use of color contacts, but the magic in the eye is very potent and burns through the contact quickly. This means the contact must be changed several times a day. About once every two hours or so for the average Witchlight. This makes contacts difficult, and as soon as someone discovers a Caster is a Witchlight, the contacts become useless.

~You may only make one Witchlight character
~Only Mods can make Ocular Witches and each Mod can only make one
~Only half of your student characters may have Grimoires
~Students can not have a weapon as a conductor

Fᴀᴍɪʟɪᴀʀs
Familiars are animal partners to Spellcasters. They are not pets and are considered to be an equal to the spellcaster they are paired with. Mistreatment of a Familiar is illegal in Caster community, even mistreating the familiar of a Witchlight is unheard of. Mistreatment of your own familiar will most likely end in the loss of your familiar. Students at Elysium are not allowed to have Familiars, because having a Familiar means having a contract. The caster community does not want to encourage contracts between minors and Familiars because it is a very serious ordeal. But teachers may have Familiars if they please.

Familiars can be just about any mammal or avian. Most common are cats and owls. Having an unusual Familiar is rare because Familiars are easily seen by humans and can draw the attention of unwanted hunters. Therefore house pets are the usual familiars. Dogs are not a common familiar because they do not have the patience to be one.

Once a Familiar's contract is signed, the familiar can then speak and use magic, draining from their partners own magic to do so. Until they sign a contract, familiars are just regular animals. The longer an animal has been a familiar, the more powerful they are. Having a familiar is considered useful because they can stand in for spells that require more than one person to cast. They can also help protect their caster. The most important reason Casters get Familiars is because a Familiar contract binds your soul to your familiar which makes your magic overall, much more powerful.

~Humans do not attend Elysium
~The town of Eden is a small town in the Mountains of Colorado
~Elysium is in the mountains of Colorado and is hidden from sight using magic.
~In the Caster community, if you are 18, but still attending school, you are still considered a minor.
~Elysium believes in the protection of humans and using magic to purposely harm one in any way can result in expulsion from Elysium.
~Elysium's goal is to reform Spellcasters so they can blend in with society and coexist peacefully with humans.
~If a Caster ever need be arrested, they do not leave it up to humans to arrest them. Casters will either purposely lead hunters to the criminal or arrest them themselves so no one is hurt by the criminal's magic.

Please use this when making characters. If you want thin but characters, but with some muscle, then please use a lower number in the medium frame size range.

Tʜɪɴɢs ᴛᴏ ʙᴇ Nᴏᴛᴇᴅ
~Teachers can teach up to three classes. No more
~Students go to the element class which they take three times a day in order to take classes on the three different subelements
~Witchlights take a class for one of their elements, and then practice the other elements they know in a Witchlight class instead of getting an elective.
~All students must take Dark Arts, History of Magic, and their Elemental Studies class (Earth, Water, Fire, Air). With this, they get two periods for electives. Witchlights only get one period for an elective because they take a Witchlight Class.
~Only two teachers may teach each class.
~Some electives only have one teacher.
