but what if there is no help?

Gisela Hausmann Hi all, while I am not an expert on the topic I have experienced terrible things in connection with this topic. For details please pull the free sample of my award-winning ebook at Amazon. (Of course you could buy the book too, which would make me happy, but that story is in the free sample)
I believe the main problem is that people, who want to commit suicide are so depressed that rarely ever they realize that "there might be help and a way out" of whatever their problem is. A "might" is most likely enough to move into a positive direction.
The terrible truth is that suicide never solves anything. All it does is that the ones, who stayed behind, have to question themselves what they could have done to hinder the tragedy. It is a terrible feeling to live with. Opposite to what suicidal persons think, nobody is better off.

Billy Joel wanted to do it, but checked himself into a clinic and look who has become... Even the best of the best experience bad and vulnerable moments. We just need to push through and things can get really awesome.

yeah that's awesome for him but not all people feel like they can "get help". the people they're surrounded by may not support them despite what you may think or their family actually would be better off. also not all help in the person's area considering suicide could be good.

and maybe it will solve problems. maybe their family actually won't be sad after the funeral but celebrate that they don't have to worry about money anymore when thinking about colleges for their kid

Ember Skye Suicide isn't the answer Liz. If you die, you'll never live the great life that's ahead of you. When we're just teens, we feel like life in the now is how life will be forever. But it's not, life changes. Once you're away from your family you won't have to worry about them.

never said it was just suggested it. plus who knows if we do? for all we know we could be hobos in 20yrs. might not wanna hear it but you have better chances of being a hobo than a world leader. what if someone said "you have a great life to live" 20yrs ago to that hobo you pass by on your way to school? that's the thing...we DONT know if we have this amazing life to lead

message 9: by Ember Skye (new)

Ember Skye It's true that it's not guaranteed that we'll have a good life, but the chances of having one are MUCH higher if you're alive. Plus, there's a huge difference between a world leader and a hobo

maybe but its easier to be a hobo

message 11: by Ember Skye (new)

Ember Skye I know, but it isn't too hard to make a semi-decent living

true but how can we know that for sure? in 20yrs?

message 13: by Gisela (new)

Gisela Hausmann @Liz
We never know anything, thank God. Let's say you were in school and you'd know that you'll be Valedictorian, you might take it for granted and slack off. Plus, you might not be happy once you get become Valedictorian because it was not hard-earned surprise but so to speak "in the cards already". If we could see the future and know what's coming that takes away all the excitement of reaching each milestone. I think you know that my book 'Naked Determination' won Bronze at the eLit awards. When I entered I did not even tell anybody about it, because I did not want to look stupid if I did not win. Eventually I confided into a few friends and they told me, "Don't you get your hopes up... Don't you know how hard it is to win?" I said, "Sure I do. In 1988 I entered one of my books into three awards and I did not win any. That's why this time around I only entered for only one award" (you have to pay an entry fee and I did not want to lose as much money as I did in 1988). Then, on the day, when the awards were supposed to be announced I got an email saying, that the jury needed longer because so many books had been entered. That did not really look encouraging. Imagine my excitement, when I got the email that my book was a winner. I was so excited it took me three scrollings through the entire email to even find my own name... In other words, the fact that we don't know anything is exactly what makes life so exciting. We are in charge and when we succeed we know that we succeeded due to our own actions. YOU are in charge of your life...

"...
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."
(from "Invictus" a short Victorian poem by poet William Ernest Henley

♕ ❤ ♕ Princess pink diamonds posh bird LINZY.x.♕ ❤ ♕ (marilyngoodreadscom) It's the people left behind that suffer after a person commits suicide, their family and friends.
Yes, there's people they can go to for help , people who get bullied etc can be driven to want to end their life, obviously there's different reasons for suicide. But there's people who could make them feel better about themselves
I watched my dad die aged 57 of cancer and years later my mum remarried and my stepdad died of the same illness. I could see the pain in their eyes because they didn't want to go.
Also my friend aged 56 died of a brain haemorrhage last week, without any warning, she leaves a husband, children, grandchildren.
So to me committing suicide is selfish when there are people dying young of illness and they want to live. Families will cry and have an unhappy life because a persons committed suicide and not given their family and friends a thought.

I think that, in some cases, suicide is a good option. A friend of my parents had parkinsons disease and she was getting worse, and worse. Her organs were going to fail, she wouldn't be able to breath, she would have spent her last months or years dying in a slow and painful way. Instead, she did this assisted suicide and was so happy when she could finally die in peace. In a situation like that, suicide is the best option.

that's understandable but some people aren't offered help. some are orphans with no one to love them and a depressed life all alone...how about then?

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Of course they shouldn't commit suicide!! THey should keep believing that things will get better. Even if they don't.

even if the worst things have happened to them?

message 22: by Hai (new)

Hai (angelslayer) Even if they were terminally ill? If every breath they took was sheer agony, if they were no longer able to control simple bodily functions like bladder control, if they knew they were going to die anyway, yet they feel like they're being a burden on their friends and family.

You really shouldn't force anyone into any choices unless you understand what their reasons are.

exactly...you can never say suicide shouldn't be an option because sometimes it is the best option for someone.
