Ellis Knox (sknox) | 14 comments I am weary of books about the Tudors, King Arthur, and anything Victorian. There was a time when books about the Plantagenets and even the Capetians were quite popular. I wonder what happened.

Anyway, leaving aside Brother Cadfael, what would you suggest for me. I would lean heavily toward stories set on the Continent rather than in England, set anywhere between ... oh, let's say 1066 and 1347.

Ellis Knox (sknox) | 14 comments Thanks, KOMET! I have Crowley. I have a ton of non-fiction, as I'm a medieval historian. I was looking for fiction (should have been more specific). Bonus points for historical fantasy set in this era.

Maurice Druon's Cursed Kings series, which is about the downfall of the House of Capet, is excellent. It starts with The Iron King. (Don't know if you've read them, as apparently you can't Compare Books with a GR Author.)

Ellis Knox (sknox) | 14 comments Thanks for the reference, Susanna. I know the late Middle Ages well, but I'll make a note of this. I also know Costain's novels, of course.
