I read this story many years ago, and I can't recall the title or author. It was in a collection of science-fiction/fantasy stories by notable mainstream writers (The most well-known story was F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Diamond as Big as the Ritz.") The story I want to recall goes like this: Argentine researchers discover that playing a certain popular song at a very loud volume causes the hearer to become an imbecile. Using this knowledge, Argentina conquers the world by flying airplanes equipped with powerful sound systems over the other nations and playing this tune at incredibly high volume. The conquest lasts for just one generation, after which Argentina is annihilated by the descendants of the conquered imbeciles.
