reading progress page 30, Chapter 2. said good bye to Ms Betsy, I thought she would be some big player in protagonist's life but saw the last of her when she was told that the new born was "he" and not a "she".

I am still questioning his mother remarrying. does her new husband actually loves her or it's a plot to rob a woman of her house? (hide spoiler)]

At page 62. Liked the words that firmness is tyranny in another form..See so many people like that around me.

@Syl: he is funny and Peggoty's brother is also funny. (view spoiler)[ my first Dickens and if he put characters like this then I think am going to like him. they're gray and makes me think a lot to decide if they are good or bad. Murdstones are also like one of those but am still on the fence about them. (hide spoiler)]

@Reshma: i deeply sympathize with the mama. why didn't she rebel and became a mama bear? :/

@Manju some people are like that.. They like to be cuddled and petted and have all their decisions made by others.. In fact I think there are very few people who can stand up to tyranny... Most people abhor arguments and fights.

At page 100.
David is easily fooled - first by the waiter in the inn, and now by his senior, who hogs all his pocket money.
Am waiting to see what else Salem school brings

Steerforth is a tricky fella. arrogant and proud but he is nice to Davy. he was his knight in shining armour and his protector.

At 121
Poor Mr. Mell. Now I dislike Steerforth a bit.
Have reached the portion where David is just entering home for vacation.
Now reading further.

I too felt so bad fro Mr. Mell and first time i hated Steerforth. i wanted to slap that arrogant kid and the headmaster too took his side. :/:/ Hope we get to see him again...

I think the circumstances in which David met Steerforth sealed both of their fates. I don't think Steerforth is very fond of David, he treat him as a friend and also take advantage of David's devotion to him some extent. David was merely a child and so badly treated at home and school, hence he hold on to that little help that he got from Steerforth.

i will put my thoughts in spoilers now. hope i didn't give away much in my post 22.

I remember reading the abridged version as a kid and extracts here and there.

Reached 380 pages,(view spoiler)[ David's dependency and affection on Steerforth is very irritating for me... So stupid of him to invite them for dinner and go overboard..!! I'm liking the way his aunt cares for him and arranges everything, but wondering whether this makes him dependent and not able to judge/decide anything on his own...

Felt bad for Poor Agnes and her Father's fate, and Uriah is hate-able as always. I wish David pays some attention to Agnes's warning about Steerforth..! (hide spoiler)]
