So as a general guideline, you want to start setting up the next group read by the 5th of the month prior to the start of the group read. So, for example, the December/January group read nominations thread should go up on/by November 5th.
I feel a bit deficient because I have been trying to get the group message out for our Jan/Feb 2018 bom. I finally figured out how to add it to the read for the group but the message announcing it not so much.
That's okay, Book Junkie. I'm sorry I haven't been around much. I have a lot going on right now. You can send a group message by going to the members tab and scroll all the way down and click on 'broadcast message to all members'. Make sure it's correct because you can't resend it. You are only able to send one message a day.
Is everyone still good for doing their bimonthly group reads they signed up for? Please send me a PM asap or ask one of your co-coordinators if they can take your slot if you are not able to coordinate for that period.





Timeline:
1 month in advance: Create a thread to solicit nominations for the group read. So as a general guideline, you want to start setting up the next group read by the 5th of the month prior to the start of the group read. So, for example, the December/January group read nominations thread should go up on/by November 5th.
You can pick a theme that you'd like. To create a thread, just click on create new on the right of the Book of the Month Folder header.
*books must be published in book or ebook format
*books should be interracial in content (any combination is allowed)
*books should not be nominated by the author.
*books should not be a book we've already read.
Give the members about 10-14 days to post their nominations.
2. Create a poll for readers to vote on the nominations. Do not add a book that doesn't meet the above qualifications and if the member does not use a goodreads link to list it as a nomination. Click on the polls tab to the right of the thread listed under the Fans of Interracial romance header, create new poll and select the name of each book to add to the poll. The poll should last 7 days. It is time consuming to send an invite to every group member, so I usually don't. Instead I use the event notification.
When you create the poll, announce that the nominations period is closed and how long the poll will last.
3. When the poll has ended, please announce the book that won the poll. You can do this by adding it to the bookshelf with the dates it will be read. List it as "to read" until the date in which the book discussion will begin. You can announce it on the nomination thead.
4. On the 1st day of the month of the group read, make sure the discussion thread is created in the group read folder, and add the book to the currently reading shelf. You are not required to read the book, but it's helpful if you can to keep the discussion going. Please pop in regularly during the group read to make sure things are going smoothly.
Announcing the Group Read:
I usually create an event notification for the nomination and poll for the group read. You can do this by clicking on the events tab on the group page, and creating a new event. You can list the dates for how long the nominations period or poll will last. Please include a link to the poll or nominations thread in your event text box.
You could also announce the group read by sending a group message. You do this by scrolling to the bottom of the members list and clicking on send announcement to group members. I would only do this once or twice at the most. We try to keep the amount of group announcements to a minimum.
