Book Suggestions!
Assuming the the number of books goes up at a constant pace for every half hour that would make something like 4036 books after 2 weeks, sounds quite crazy hahaIt makes sense to not let that happen!
hate the cover but adore the book!
hate this cover too, but my mother and lots of other people go fan-crazy over this whole series. It's high/epic fantasy, so its got to be good.
Why can we not like other comments??? I want to like that ^^^ Ugly covers??? Should we just read a classic?? :D
The books by one of my favourite author's have not been translated into English, I don't know if it is possible to have topic where books are in different languages? The original language, such a topic could probably not be limited to one book or language but would it be possible to open one or more discussion threads(by language) for people who prefer/would like to try reading in another language? It could run alongside the one in English and could even be the same topic for each month ^^
Ok! I hadn't realized the suggestions were for September! haha (Ugly Covers)Here we go:
I stand by the suggestion of reading The Eye of the World! Hideous cover, but seems to be fantastic! Its a loooong series though.
Also would like to suggest Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
My copy of 'Crewel' by Gennifer Albin is hideous but others seem to like it. I guess mine is the UK cover :(
For ugly book cover.
Sabriel by Garth Nix is a really great fantasy story, it's about necromancy mostly, but not in a really dark way. I love this book but this cover is just ugh for me. Really washed out and I don't really like this illustration.Catriona: I think it would be better if we could nominate books only for next month. There aren't many suggestions right now, but once the theme fills up, it will be hard for you to find book suggested for a particular theme. We also don't know if the theme is going to be selected or not, so it's quite pointless suggesting a book for theme that it's not selected in the end.
I really liked it! I really wouldn't mind rereading it, since I never got to continue with the story, because I couldn't get next books at that time, since I never ordered anything online and my local book store is quite weak with literature in English.I also think it's great for the book club, because even though it's a first book in a series, it doesn't really require continuation. The story wraps up well, so you can stop with just this book.
Sabriel really sounds interesting.I would advise against the Eye of the World though. After some books the series goes downhill in my opinion. It is also really long, the author died before he could finish, and someone else got it done for him.
Ella Minnow PeaElla Minnow Pea - by Mark DunnOne of the most brilliant little books I have ever read - I re-read every year or two. Every single edition cover sucks!
Shadowhunterjace wrote: That someone else being Brandon Sanderson—the man who wrote Mistborn.I wasn't sure for a moment but now that you mention it, how could I forget?
@Keegan yes that cover is def. ugly
In the name of John Green I second that recommendation ^_^
I wish more people would read the Stravaganza books. They are this epic mixture of historical fiction, mystery, adventure and a little bit of fantasy. I just love love love the series. They are up there with the Harry Potter series, they're just that good.So my suggestion would be: City of Masks
I agree with The Eye of the World. I have a friend who highly recommends it. Now I would have an incentive to read it.
Breathing Underwater by Alex Flinn is one of my favorite books, however the paperback edition is the most hideous thing ever!!!
The orginal Ender's Game cover is extremely ugly. It's gotten better, but the original is the version that I own. I haven't read it yet, so I don't know how good it is, but I've heard good things about it.
I highly suggest the wings series by Aprilynne Pike, it's about faeries and it's got romance, action, drama and high school life as well. I loved it and would love to read it again.
Most of the Night World covers are pretty ugly. Not the black ones with a person on them, but the original ones.
Personally I think the original Vampire Academy covers are ugly. Don't know if that's just my opinion. Would love to get into the series but just haven't got around to reading it yet.
ooh this is a difficult one... there are so many variations of all these book covers ummmmmmm maybe vampire academy? the original covers weren't too nice (just my opinion)
I don't really like the cover of Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout.. but I've heard it's a great book !

Catriona (LittleBookOwl) wrote: "So after seeing the response to the original format of the polls - 4 originally chosen by me, but with the option to post your own write-in answer that others can vote for, I have decided to remove..."The Vampire Academy Series. It has an ugly cover but I wanna read them.

Within the first like 30 minutes, the options came to 10, and this poll will be live for 2 weeks. That math and me don't compute!
So I have decided to post a discussion thread where you can suggest books you'd like to see optioned for next month's readalong. If there are any books with a significant amount of you mentioning, then voila! I shall put it on the poll!
Go forth and suggest away! You may leave an idea for a book for ANY theme you are interested in, and I will keep them in mind OR you may do so for next month's theme:
SEPTEMBER THEMES: UGLY COVERS
EDIT
I have closed this topic for now as it is a lot easier to have a thread each month designated for a particular theme. I will keep this here for any other books you suggested for other themes as a reference point in the future.
