Straub's follow-up to the celebrated Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures is the perfect companion for your summer vacation.

The setup seems simple: a New York City family takes a trip to Mallorca, Spain, to celebrate the 35th wedding anniversary of Franny and Jim and the graduation of their daughter Sylvia from high school. But, family vacations being what they are, the trip promises as much strife as it does sun, and each member of the family begins to question if the unit will survive the two-week expedition intact.

I just finished it. I think it's a decent beach read. I think if you like it, you might like better "The Interestings",by Meg Wolitzer, "Beautiful Ruins" by Jess Walter, and "Seating Arrangements" (my favourite of the three) by Maggie Shipstead.

What did you think of "The Vacationers"?

Liked The Vacationers, didn't love - found it to be an easy, quick read, and not fluffy. I thought the other three I listed were better :)

I enjoyed the Vacationers! I found it to be an easy, quick and fun read.

I could perfectly picture all of the characters in my mind and I loved the complicated relationships between all of the family members.
