Heaven is for Real
Part 1: I read the book Heaven is for Real. The main character in the book is a three year old boy named Colton Burpo. Colton was a very happy kid with a sweetheart full of God, and is a blessing to his parents hearts. Colton ran into some unlucky situations as a child, and every parent hoping something so heartbreaking and unfortunate would never happen to their child. Mr and Mrs. Burpo have been in a tough spot with work and Mr. Burpo’s cancer and leg recovery, that they could take a break from work to spend time with the family. So they came up with the idea of going to there next church conference and making a great family vacation out of it.
Before the family could get with Mr. Burpo for there family vacation, there son Colton suddenly gets sick. Time goes by and Colton starts to feel better, and that's when Mrs. Burpo believes Colton is ready to go on with the trip. But as they go on with the trip, Colton's sickness is getting worse and to the point where he is throwing up and cannot stop. That’s when they decided they had to go to the hospital to take care of Colton's sickness. When they arrived at the hospital, Colton’s condition was getting worse and not better. They had found out that Colton has been suffering from his appendix rupturing. From when they found out Colton immediately when into surgery.
While Colton was recovering from surgery, the doctor was sending him to a children’s hospital to continue recovering. On there way to the children’s hospital, Colton starts talking about how he had a dream during his surgery. He said he saw heaven, and all of it’s great glory. A few years later, Colton still talked of his dream in heaven. Colten also talks about how he saw angels, the heavenly throne, and even the triune God. He also remembers events that have happened in his family before he was even born or thought of.
Part 2: I absolutely loved this book and all that was in it. I liked the part of the book where it happens so fast, because that is so true in every way, one thing can happen and change your whole life. So you have this great, happy, extraordinary child and one thing leads to the next just like that. On a daily basis this is not something I would typically read. But once I read it, I want to keep reading it because there are experiences like this all the time, so reading and learning more about it makes it more interesting and worth learning more about it.
This book reminds me so much of Miracles from Heaven. I will do my best not to spoil it. But anyways it talks about some of the same things that happened. Of course they were different situations, but nevertheless in Miracles from heaven this girl named Anna, who got very sick with her stomach, where her organs got tangled and twisted and caused her stomach to expand. Then later on in the story, Anna and her sisters were at home playing in the yard. Anna’s older sister says let's climb this tree, and so they got to a limb of the tree that was old and ready to break. So Anna’s sister say’s get in that hole by the tree, and when Anna got in the hole she fell inside the hollow tree, head first from two stories up.
So later on in the book, Anna was ok and recovered. Every day from when she fell on her head inside that tree, her stomach started to go back to it’s normal size. When her mom and dad saw her stomach was normal, Anna said that she went to heaven when she hit her head inside of the tree, and she was told something in that dream that made her feel safe and sure about it. Those two books are just absolutely amazing and have a lot to say about Heaven and how real it really will be when we join our lord and savior in heaven.
Part 3: I feel that the two words that really describe this book are hope and the bonds of family. In heaven is for real, Hope resembles this book perfectly from things not going there ways, to everything working out in the end. They never gave up and they never gave in because of hope they had not only in the lord but in there son. When Colton said “I can see angels, the heavenly throne, and the triune God.” Colton had hope in what he said because the trust and love he had in the lord and what he saw.
The bonds of family that where in this situation had to do with either great things or horrible things that had happened before someone or something. When Colton was describing these events that had happened before him, he was not just bringing back those memories to his parents but of how precious family is. When Colton said,”Mom I saw grandpa.” Every one of those particular memories of that person are not forgotten, but in a bond as a family. Every second, every minute, every hour, and every day we take in memories, but that is how fast life can go if you forgive and forget, cause you won’t ever get those memories back once you do so.
