John | 7 comments Thoughts on anything in the last eighty-one pages? Like maybe the ending?

John | 7 comments I had to immediately go back and reread the first section, with Hal in the dean's office. So much there that just didn't mean very much the first time through.

Matthew (matthewalundberg) | 18 comments Agreed! I am going to wait a bit to complete that loop, but the vast openness of the ending definitely caught me a off-guard. After reading so much of this book and filling in holes, I wasn't it to be tied neatly, but the gap between the ending and our small scene in the Year of Glad is so huge, it puts the Concavity to shame. I can understand why people would obsess over this book, looking for clues of all the stuff they missed the first time, but I don't think that's the point.

Also: I do feel sorry for Orin, now, though I wasn't sure I would...

As far as direct discussion questions that I want to ask:
- Which storyline leaves you most wanting further details?
- The policeman touching his face sounds like a person we encountered before...do we know who Joelle vanDyne was walking into the clutches of? (Or not, and it's just a weird partner of the ADA who wants and doesn't want revenge on Gately?)
- Where is Gately at the end? If he's dead, does this mean that Hal has the same fever dream as Gately and it never actually happened? Perhaps wraith-inspired? Or maybe Gately was just dumped somewhere and that's just the end of his memory with Fax.
- Why end the book with such a scene of horror melting into chemical-induced pleasure?
