Lesa Howard (lesahoward) | 33 comments Hello, all,

I'm looking for humorous, lighter fare contemporary YA. I recently read #famous by Jilly Gagnon; Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett, and now reading Geekerella by Ashley Poston, but I want a TBR list with this style of books. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Lesa

Cimone Watson | 1 comments I recently read The Boy In the Black Suit by Jason Reynolds, and I laughed out loud a few times. It's not exactly like the books you've mentioned; it deals with grief, which is a heavy topic, but it does it with humor and heart. (I hope that doesn't sound cliche, lol.)

The Boyfriend List by E. Lockhart is sort of funny. I have a shelf called "YA Contemporary Pancakes (Fluffy/Sweet)" which is supposed to contain light contemporary, but I don't have a very long list yet, haha.

I think The Temptation of Adam by Dave Connis is supposed to be funny, and it will be out in November. Ashley Poston's book called We Own the Night is pretty good. (Even though I didn't like the beginning much, it really picked up in the middle.)

Finally, the following sound potentially funny to me: Cure for the Common Universe, Grendel's Guide to Love and War, and A Geek's Guide to Unrequited Love. Plus, you've mentioned Geekerella, and there's a list of YA novels that deal with geekdom, fandom, etc.: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/8...

I hope you find something that suits you! :)

Lesa Howard (lesahoward) | 33 comments Cimone, this geekdom list looks good. And when you say Boy in the Black Suit is a series tope but it's humorous, it makes me think of Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak. Even though it was a ver serious subject matter, the character's voice made me smile sometimes. Good writing can do that.
