I started Star Wars - Poe Dameron Vol. 1 - Black Squadron this morning. I started here because I'm in love with Poe Dameron and BB-8.It's a prequel to 'Force Awakens', where we see how Black Squadron got the location of Lor San Tekka.
One thing is I feel like it's somewhat hard to get BB-8's personality across on page. So much of it from the movie was in his reactions, and some of that seems to be lost.
Also, poor Poe ends up talking in this huge exposition chunks, like, "No, BB-8, I don't know why this thing is happening..." - though I suppose there's a fair amount of that in the movies, too.
So far I just think the dialogue is pretty clunky, and I wonder at the pain actors would have saying some of this stuff. LOL
I am enjoying trying to do their voices in my head, though, so there's that.
And I've enjoyed the introduction of Terex as the villain. In my head he's that delightful cross of camp and evil.
I spoke too soon - BB-8 got a chance to shine in the second half of the book.It really bugs me that they spell it out "Beebee Ate", though. I mean, why not just use BB-8? Or, if you have to spell it for some reason, why not use Eight instead of Ate?
It probably goes back to how Lucas would call the original droids Threepio and Artoo, to personalize them (I guess). They're probably just keeping up a "tradition".Though I agree that Ate rather than Eight is rather stupid.

Thaddeus does not approve of a universe in which Jar Jar Binks is canon and Grand Admiral Thrawn is not.
