Alex There's a lot of Easter Eggs jammed in this book, but I haven't found a place where anyone has compiled them.

Here's what I've got:

Teen Mysteries:

Scooby Doo - this one not really an Easter egg, but should be mentioned for completion's sake.

Nancy Hardy, the byline from the newspaper article is a nod to the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books.

Enid Byton "Famous Five" series - the dog is named "Tim" and the name of the town is Blyton Hills.

Trixie Belden - the nearby town down the valley is named Belden.

Cthulhu Mythos:

The elder god creature is a unique creation with nods towards both Cthulhu and Tsathoggua, particularly in their later incarnations as modified by Lin Carter and the Call of Cthulhu RPG.

Bob Howard is most likely a reference to Robert E. Howard, one of the original craftsmen of the mythos. However, it could also be a reference to the character of the same name in Stross's Laundry Files series.

Emily Zoinks river--reference to Scooby Doo

Acker--could be a reference to Kathy Acker, a feminist author in her own right who did some serious intertextual stuff and one of the people who inspired Delirium from the Sandman comics

Miskatonic--reference to the Miskatonic of the Lovecraft mythos

Reference to "a possessed Arab"--potentially related to Lovecraft's Al-Hazred, author of the necronomicon

Matthew Davenport Raising someone from the dead via their essential salts -- The Case of Charles Dexter Ward by Lovecraft

love. I have a theory that W. Wilson, the sheriff, is a reference to Twin Peaks. In Twin Peaks, the town sheriff's name is Harry S. Truman....a president. W. Wilson=Woodrow Wilson, another US president. Twin Peaks is also supernatural/spooky, very in vibe w. the concept of the book.
