Dune
I'm not the biggest science fiction fan, but I love Dune, I enjoy the rest of the series, but the first book is by far the best of the group.

The Forever War by Joe Halderman and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
I rather enjoyed them both but wouldn't put them at the top of my favourites list.

Unless ordering by age? 0:)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)My favourites tend to be on the oldest side of SF (Foundation, Robot's cycle, Dune...).
If you consider them science fiction, I liked both Frankenstein (1818) and Gulliver's Travels (1726). Both of those have science fiction elements, though the first is more what, proto-horror?, and the second mostly a satire. I found all of H.G. Wells major books a lot of fun to read, and several of those are definitely sci-fi. Of those, I greatly enjoyed The War of the Worlds (1897), (The Time Machine (1895), The Invisible Man (1897), The Island of Dr. Moreau (1896), and The Country of the Blind (1904). The only one I didn't like by Wells was The War in the Air, which I found boring.
Jules Verne is another writer of early sci-fi classics that many friends like, but I found Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Around the World in Eighty Days (1872), and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1869) all a little episodic for my tastes; I found all three a little boring. That's just me though.
