Timothy Baril | 3 comments Hey all,

What do you think about opening a board on here for freelance editors to promote their services?

Lea (leagalanter) | 3 comments My first thought is that it will be inundated with editors promoting their editing service who charge almost nothing for their services (which I've seen in other Goodreads groups). I can't speak to the quality of their editing at their low rates--I know that quality editing takes time and is far more than adding a comma here and there. Often writers will jump on those kinds of deals rather than work with an experienced editor (you get what you pay for). I'd love to advertise my services on Goodreads, but I'm not sure it will really net me any new clients when I have to compete with people who clearly don't need the money to survive.

Timothy Baril | 3 comments I suppose trying to verify that the author is professional would take work. But it could limit who posts. What if they were a member of a professional group already, like Editors Canada?

Where do you advertise or find new clients now?

Lea (leagalanter) | 3 comments I find clients through my profiles on professional organizations I belong to (ACES, NWIEG, EFA, to name a few). I also network on LinkedIn for clients in the marketing and technology fields since I spent many years as a technical editor and writer. And there's always word of mouth from writer friends and satisfied clients. I also have my profile on many other sites, but have never had someone contact me through them (these sites also cater to service providers with really low rates, so no surprise that I've never been contacted).

Kathe | 1 comments I don't see the point. It would be a duplication. I had to unsubscribe from another group here because it was full of writers wanting free editing and, worse still, editors willing to work for free or almost nothing.
