Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments Hey everyone - I'm looking forward to this challenge. I'm your team Captain but I suck at spreadsheets. Luckily we have Jodi who is going to handle the spread sheet for us.

If everyone could please

1. Introduce yourselves
2. Post any tasks you know you can read for this month
3. Post any suggestions for a Team name

Jodi, when you get a chance if you can get a spreadsheet started for us - that would be great.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments Intro: I moved to Phoenix, AZ 3 years ago and this is the longest I've lived in one place in 25 years. I'm retired from the USAF (which is why I've moved so many times). I have two kids (14 & 11) and since I'm not ready to be completely retired I now work for a civilian company but I work from home most days which gives me a lot of flexibility. I also have a beloved pitbull named Rex. I read almost nothing but romance (primarily M/M, RS and PNR).

Tasks I know I can read for are:
book set in Europe
science fiction book
1 romance book (for the heart)
1 vampire book (for the blood)
1 book where only a head is on the cover
Hainted by Jordan L. Hawk
1 book where only a torso is on the cover
Ecstasy Claimed (Guardians of the Realms, #2) by Setta Jay Cold Iron (Cold Iron, #1) by D.L. McDermott Beneath the Stain by Amy Lane
Team Name Suggestion:
Grave Diggers
Psychos
The Evil Dead
The Conjurors
Re-Animators

Jodi (jojolyn) | 673 comments Hi Team, I'm Jodi, a self proclaimed bookworm. I have the most perfect job: I work in a library! I usually check in, a couple times a day, to GR. I live with my sister, she has a dog, Leo and I have a cat, Shadow.
I read romance and thrillers.

Tasks I could complete: set at a college or university, any of the body part tasks and books for wattage. I normally read 2-3 books/week.

I'm excited about this challenge!

I have started our spreadsheet, it should be completed tomorrow.

Sophie | 132 comments Hi everyone, good to meet you, I'm excited about the task and getting to know some new people! :)

A little bit about me: I'm Sophie, 30, I live in London (UK) with my daughter, aged 5, and two cats Tigger and Merlin. I work as a PA for a paediatric eye surgeon, which gets quite busy (hence I didn't commit to running the spreadsheet or being captain!) but is very rewarding.

I have a few books on my kindle that would fit I think:
Book set in Europe
Gino's Healthy Italian for Less 100 Feelgood Family Recipes for Under 5 by Gino D'Acampo Remember Me by Lynda Renham London (Surviving The Evacuation #1) by Frank Tayell
Sci-Fi
Afterlife by Marcus Sakey
Book set in college
Where Good Girls Go To Die (Good Girls, #1) by Holly Renee Hate to Love You by Tijan
Romance
The Secrets of Married Women by Carol Mason Sacked (Gridiron, #1) by Jen Frederick Where Good Girls Go To Die (Good Girls, #1) by Holly Renee Hate to Love You by Tijan
A book with a torso on the cover
Hate to Love You by Tijan Sacked (Gridiron, #1) by Jen Frederick
Legs on the cover
The Secrets of Married Women by Carol Mason
Non-fiction
Gino's Healthy Italian for Less 100 Feelgood Family Recipes for Under 5 by Gino D'Acampo

Wattage

I've listed some books more than once as they're interchangeable so happy to read for whichever tasks need completing.
I quite like the name Grave Diggers or the Evil Dead.

When do our books start counting for the challenge?

message 9: by Jonquil (last edited Sep 29, 2017 08:07AM) (new)

Jonquil | 699 comments Hey y'all from sunny Nashville, TN where fall has finally arrived--that means just below 90 degrees. I took a day off from work today to start painting my 116-year-old house. Hopefully, I'll finish before winter sets in.

Any of the group names is fine with me.

I have borrowed books in the following categories from the library to read during week 1

non-fiction book The Speed of Trust: The One Thing that Changes Everything

book set at a college or university The Northbury Papers
romance book
vampire book Immortally Yours
The Speed of Trust The One Thing that Changes Everything by Stephen M.R. Covey The Northbury Papers (A Karen Pelletier Mystery #2) by Joanne Dobson Immortally Yours (Argeneau #26) by Lynsay Sands

legs/feet if these work
Hometown Secrets (Linda Darby, #2) by David Bishop Styx & Stone (Ellie Stone Mysteries #1) by James W. Ziskin Killer Heels (Molly Forrester Mystery, #1) by Sheryl J. Anderson

also iffy about these being torso
Immortal Danger (Night Watch, #0.5) by Cynthia Eden Night Reigns (Immortal Guardians, #2) by Dianne Duvall The Beast Within (Guardians of the Dark, #4) by Erin McCarthy

I'll happily focus on whatever subjects we're missing starting on week 2 -- I'll just need some internet access time to identify options.

If suggestions are needed, possibilities for another team member for head:
Haunted (Michael Bennett #10) by James Patterson Fortune's Pawn (Paradox #1) by Rachel Bach Arclight (Arclight, #1) by Josin L. McQuein

time to log out of my neighbor's wifi and walk back over to my mocking house (which seems to grow larger by the hour, sigh...)

Jodi (jojolyn) | 673 comments I found a book I can read for "A book set during Mary Shelley's lifetime 1797-1851"

Sweet Revenge (A Lady Arianna Regency Mystery #1) by Andrea Penrose is set in 1813.

Yeah - I hardly ever read historical.

Looking at what has been approved your leg covers should be fine. (At least the first 2). Not sure if the third has enough leg in it.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments Hello!

I'm Mary. Mom of a college student and a Bulloxer (see my avatar to know what a Bulloxer is). An avid reader. I read a wide variety of genres.

I don't have time right now to scope out books. But I have so many that I can probably cover just about anything. Except maybe the college one (if I have one, I don't know that I have it). I love historical and non-fiction.

I don't see much for people posting for hands up there so I'll try and peruse my covers for a book with a hand on the cover.

message 14: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments I'm still a little confused on this challenge. Do we need to cover the same categories each week?

message 15: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments I could read this for hand:

The Blunderer by Patricia Highsmith

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments No - we just have to cover all the categories one time during the month as a team. Then we have to read 10 books (any book that is 150 pages will work) for watts. So a total of 25 books for the month as a team. We are just putting out what we think we can do right now so that we are duplicating efforts when the time comes. For instance I don't read non-fiction so it's great to know that others on the team do :)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments Team Name? Any thoughts from the rest of the team? We have one vote for Grave Diggers and The Evil Dead.

message 18: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 132 comments Can I clarify, does the challenge begin on Monday? I.e. Anything we read before then won't count? I've just started a book set in London which will fit the Europe task but I'll put it off until next week if it won't count over the weekend

message 19: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jojolyn) | 673 comments I vote for Grave Diggers

I don't like historicals either but I would read one if needed. But it looks like Mary likes to read historicals.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments Ok unless there are any objections then our team name will be The Grave Diggers

message 23: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments The Grave Diggers is good with me.

Yes I do love historicals.

I need to reread the rules.

message 24: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jojolyn) | 673 comments Ok Grave Diggers, are we ready? Do we want to finalize what tasks folks are reading, starting tomorrow?

message 25: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 132 comments No problem, I'll put off reading the book I had lined up until tomorrow and finish another one today instead :)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments That works - how do you want to do the spreadsheet? Do you want people to fill it in or do you want to fill it in?

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments There are 5 of us so why doesn't everyone list the top 3 tasks they want to do in order (so 1 & 2 are the ones you really want). That way everyone will end up dong 2 tasks hopefully. Although keep in mind if you read something that others don't like (historical or non-fiction).

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments My Top Three

1) Head on Cover
2) Torso on Cover
3) Science Fiction or Romance MPG

message 29: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments My top 3:

1) non-fiction
2) vampires
3) historical

But I'm sure I could cover most if the others except for college. I would have to go through a list of books set at a college ce first in

message 30: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments Sorry, on my phone.

message 31: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jojolyn) | 673 comments My top 3

Romance
Set at a college/university
Arms/legs

I will fill in the speadsheet. Do you folks want to see it? I will have to figure out how to share it. lol

message 32: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 132 comments My top 3 are:

Set in college
Set in Europe
Sci-Fi

But I could probably try to find something in another category if we're struggling

message 33: by Jonquil (new)

Jonquil | 699 comments I am fine doing whatever is needed after others select their book.

message 34: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments My plan is to try and choose books that could fit more than one category if I can.

message 35: by Mary X (last edited Oct 02, 2017 07:38AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments I have a book to finish for Bookshelf Bingo. I probably won't start a book for this until the new shelf is called on Wed afternoon. So I can see what tasks get assigned where here and hopefully I can use one book for both games. Then again, I can't use non-fiction for that one so no harm in starting one of those.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments So to Cover the tasks with what everyone wanted leaves us with this:

Set in Europe - Sophie
Science Fiction - Danielle
Set at College/University - Sophie
Written in Mary Shelley's Lifetime - Mary

Non-Fiction - Mary
Romance - Jodi
Vampire - Jonquil
Head on Cover - Danielle
Torso on Cover - Danielle
Arms or Hands - Jodi or Jonquil
Legs or Feet - Jodi or Jonquil

Jodi - You put Arms/Legs which is two different tasks so I wasn't sure which one you wanted (arms/hands or Legs/Feet). So if you take one of those and Jonquil takes the other we will be set.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments Would appreciate it if you guys checked in at least once a week to let me know how your books are coming or if you've chosen what you are going to read. We have the whole month but if someone gets in a bind and we have enough time someone else can pick up their task.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments Jodi,

When you get a minute will you post the spreadsheet here for all of us.

message 39: by Mary X (last edited Oct 02, 2017 11:22AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments If I happen to read something that works for another part, I'll post it here and you can use it if needed.

I'll probably get the non-fiction one out of the way first.

I had it in my head that it had to be set in Mary Shelley's lifetime not written then. But that's no problem. I just need to search out a different book. Maybe I'll reread Frankenstein. I have another challenge in which I need to reread some books.

eta: in the challenge description above it says "set in Mary Shelly's lifetime" so that's what I'm going to go by.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments Sounds good - also we need 10 books for wattage so we can post those as well.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments Completion Post

Book: How to Howl at the Moon by Eli Easton
Pages: 323
Date Read: 10/2
Category: Watts or Legs on Cover

How to Howl at the Moon (Howl At The Moon #1) by Eli Easton

message 42: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments The wattage books are what confuses me. Those have to meet one of the criteria correct?

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1955 comments No they can be any book - I just put it down for legs in case we end up needing it later if that one doesn't get done. But wattage books can be any book you read as long as it is at least 150 pages.

message 44: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jojolyn) | 673 comments Here is the spreadsheet. I had to do a redo in order to share.

I put arms/legs because it didn't matter which one. :) Since you just posted a book with legs on the cover, I can just read the romance and for wattage. Or if you want me to read for head/torso, I can do that too. Just let me know.

Also, I posted the spreadsheet post #44.

message 46: by Jonquil (new)

Jonquil | 699 comments Vampire 400 pages Immortally Yours Lynsay Sands 10/3

message 47: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 132 comments On it, I'm reading Remember Me which is set in London and will hopefully finish tonight and then I'll move on to the college book. After that I can relax and hopefully wrack up some wattage points or help out with another category if necessary. Happy reading everyone :)

message 48: by Jodi (last edited Oct 03, 2017 06:41AM) (new)

Jodi (jojolyn) | 673 comments Completion Post

The Beauty of Us by Kristen Proby

Pages: 304
Read: 10/3/17
Task: Romance book

If you can take the torso one - that would be fine and I'll use the one I put down for legs.

message 50: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments I started this for the set in Mary Shelly's lifetime: it's set in London 1928

Notorious Rake, Innocent Lady (Ramsden Brothers, #1) by Bronwyn Scott

Probably covers torso as well but there may be too much of other body parts in there.
