Skylar sank uncomfortably into a plush sofa. Rocket's words raced through her mind. Rocket had allies on both sides. What if she had an ally, here, in Elysium? She blinked at the sudden thought. Her eyes scanned the room. No one appeared to be more hostile towards her than normal, so she let out a sigh of relief. Of course Skylar was going to harm one of Rocket's employees. It was just the matter of when. However, could it be possible that Rocket could have the power to expel Skylar from Elysium? Skylar's stomach clenched at the thought of being expelled before starting her first year at the school. She bit her lip and placed her hands gently in her lap.
((I was about to make a post and then I realized I didn't know what my character's names were. Oops.))Iris was feeling a bit sour. For the normal reason of course. Her mother had jut sent a letter with even more things that Iris could and could not do. Was there ever a limit to how controlling or manipulative her mother because? Apparently not. At the moment her mother was in the midst of setting her up on a date with some wizard. Iris didn't want to go on a date with some wizard because she was perfectly fine being single and never having children. In fact, Iris would love to not even be a caster. She would rather be human than have to deal with her own mother! But all Iris could do was storm into the student lounge with her books so she could study. If she passed all her exams this year that meant she would be an adult. An adult that could move as far away from her mother as possible. Iris plopped down on a sofa, not bothering to see who was around and opened her book to study.
Skylar stared at the girl beside her, oblivious to Skylar's presence. Her eyes flickered to the overload of books the girl carried. She's smart. Skylar deduced. A small smile itched her lips. Perhaps the girl could be of some use to her. Besides, more allies, less trouble of hunters to deal with. However, it wasn't in Skylar's nature to make friends-or let alone be friendly. It had to be an act."Hello, I'm Skylar." She offered a hand, and secretly thanked herself for putting in her contact to cover her silver eye. "A warlock." She wiggled her right hand.
Iris glanced up and was surprised to find someone sitting next to her. "Iris." She answered, slightly dazed and confused as to why someone would want to talk to her. Iris was known to be one of the school's most bitchy people and was well known at that. She lightly shook Skylar's hand before wiggling her own right hand that her conductor was currently on. A ring with a large dark blue soul gem. "Wizard." She added. This girl, Skylar, must be fairly new at Elysium. Hopefully she didn't say something to piss off Iris anymore tan she already was because of her mother. Iris didn't need a confrontation this early in the morning.
"So, tell me this, Iris." Skylar drawled as she eyed the ring, then she scanned the school. "What is there to do for fun around here?" There definitely weren't any humans around to toy with and no hunters to kill. She would have to find a little covert corner in the school to practice dark magic. She had to stay below the radar. The thought of being arrested wasn't pleasant as it crossed her mind.
"Well, a lot of the air magic elementals go roof jumping from time to time." Iris replied, noting the Satan's Breath mark on Skylar's hand, not knowing that the girl was a Witchlight. "Scares the living daylights out of the middle aged teachers. The younger teachers are usually inclined to join and the older teachers have put up with our shit so long they don't care anymore. Usually all the students get detention and I never care to begin with. But if you're trying to study like me, the library is always a good place to start." Iris answered without even looking up from her book. She was determined to pass with flying colors this years.
"Sounds dull." Skylar sighed, hoping for something a tad bit darker. And studying? Of course Skylar would study, but now was not the time. She had to make allies. The only she needed out of the school was knowledge to grow more powerful and more effective ways to kill hunters. She stared at the girl carefully, trying to approach the subject gently. "Are there any dark secrets about this school? Any teachers with questionable pasts?"
"Teachers? Try all of them. Elysium believes hiring teachers with experience. Experience in the caster community is like running in the context of drugs. It sounds harmless out of context. You'd be hard pressed to find a teacher without questionable history." Iris looked up at that question. It intrigued her that someone would ask something like that. "There are rumors that at least half the teachers are murderers and the other half are in the mafia. An example being that Professor Archie always smells of alcohol like he spends his nights trying to drown out his sorrows. And his familiar? She is creepy as all hell."
"Murderers?" Skylar raised an eyebrow. Sounded like her kind of people. She grinned at the sound of Archie. Drinking his sorrows? This man had a weakness. A past that could be used against him. So, it could be possible that some of these teachers could pass down some dark magic knowledge. "Sounds fun." She grinned. "So, how does this school feel about dark magic?"
"Against it. The only time they will even hire a teacher that has ever had anything to do with dark magic, is so they can teach a class about it. But they teach classes about dark magic like high schools teach teenagers about drugs. Only it's names and side effects. Good thing too because casting dark magic could get you thrown to the hunters like a juicy steak to a hungry wolf." Iris shrugged. "There are two teachers that teach that class, ironically, one of them is Professor Archie."
"I suppose I'll have to speak with this Archie fellow." Skylar mused. "Is that so?" She swallowed hard with the mention of the hunters. "But it won't be hard to kill a hunter from Eden, right? Were bloody spell casters for gods sake. It's not hard to kill a human anyways." She scoffed. "Not that I would know." She said a bit too quickly.
Iris laughed. "Oh I have a feeling you know." Iris shook her head. "But hunters and humans are completely different things in my mind, and they should be in your's as well. Hunters know what witches can do and they know how to kill them, otherwise casters would have snuffed them out a long time ago. But they're dangerous and kill just as many of us as we kill of them." She turned the page of her book. "And good luck talking to Professor Archie. I haven't the slightest clue what he is actually like. Why? He seems to change his personality like I change socks, at least once a day."
"I see." Was all skylar could say. "A man who changes his socks that often must have a lot of dirt laundry." She said mostly to herself rather than to the girl next to her. "Are there any places in the school that are off limits?" Because those would be the places she would love to be.
"Not really any places interesting, that I know of anyways." Iris shrugged. She went back to paying more attention to her book than to Skylar. Why would she be so interested by Professor Archie? He was hot, granted. But other than that he was a weird smelly man with a very sarcastic cat. There couldn't be that much interesting about him, could there be? Iris just shook her head and went back to reading her book on demonology. It was a shame that demons were extinct, because Iris could think of one or two things to do with them to piss her mother off.
Skylar frowned at the lack of interest the girl was showing. "Well we should study sometime together." She winced at the attempt of being friendly. Kindness just wasn't a good color on her. She needed to find this dark magic teacher to see if he knew anything that she didn't and preferably before class started. "Do you have any idea where I could find Archie?"
"Professor Archie. Calling a professor by their first name without a title is just plain rude." Iris shook her head. "And if he's not teaching a class right now, then he's most likely in the teacher's lounge. Which, by the way, is one of the most boring restricted places in the school." She closed her book and looked up at Skylar. "And I don't think you want to study with me because not only do you seem rather behind in classes, but you will only hold me back."
"Oh, dear, I'm never behind. I'm always one step ahead." Skylar smiled. "And what a coincidence, I have a class with professor Archie first period. I should head to class now. It was a pleasure to meet you, Iris." The last sentence was meant to sound more of a threat than anything else. The girl wasn't just book smart, but she knew what was bad from good. There was no doubt Skylar could sense her suspicion. None of that mattered. Enemies were more fun to have anyways.
