I've been diving into a couple doorstopper epic fantasies lately, so I'm only at 47. But a couple of my favorite reads so far this year have been A Curse Dark As Gold by Elizabeth C. Bunce and The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch!
I'm also behind (at 43-45 depending on how I feel like counting). I don't even have the excuse of epic fantasy killing my reading. But flush with books from the BEA, my reading seems to have picked up pace again. So far this year, I'm going with Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple as my top pick. I think We Were Liars by E. Lockhart is a great read for a hot summer day.
I keep meaning to find a copy of The Girl with All the Gifts. It sound cool!
I had to write a paper on middle grade graphic novels, so I'm at 67!! My top favorite of the year is still Three Souls. It was just so intricate and well-written.
Other tops:
**Mothership
**Guardian
**Half Bad
I'm at 67 -- there are a couple of picture books in there, so I'm not really sure they count. Lots of great ones in the mix so my favorites list is a top ten, though if you caught me at a different moment I'd choose a slightly different mix:Bloody Jack by L.A. Meyer
His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik
The Emperor's Blades by Brian Staveley
Absolutely Almost by Lisa Graff
The Sixteenth of June by Maya Lang
Dept. of Speculation by Jenny Offill
Boy, Snow, Bird by Helen Oyeyemi
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
The Fever by Megan Abbott
Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie

I JUST managed to bump up my count in time for July, and I'm currently at 51. My most memorable recent read is The String Diaries - if you get the chance, definitely read it! I'm also highly recommending The Girl with All the Gifts.
What do you recommend most out of your books so far this year?
