I didn't read this, yet, as well. So an extra month is fine by me!I did have time to read our april-groupread... About time, isn't it! So, now I've read all previous 5 and I am ready for this one!
Have a nice vacation, Melissa!
I'm having a hard time reading Silas Marner. Doesn't help that I always read it at bedtime :-)
but it's still been a hard read for me.
Still interested in how it will end!
Okay, after picking this up and putting it down multiple times, I finally finishes it! If you can make it to the point of Eppie's arrival (about 2/3 the way into it) you've got it made. I didn't want to put it down after that point, and it then ended all too soon!I had difficulty with the language, and I'm usually pretty good with dialect. I think part of my frustration with and my original dislike for this book stemmed from the seeming unrelated story lines that just seemed like rabbit trails.
Eliot had a masterful way of just bringing them all together, drawing me in, and making me wish that it would keep going on! Kind of like my college experience! I just started to enjoy it when it was almost over! ;-)
Definitely was worthy of being in the 23 short classics list - just hang in there, baby!
I started it and than realized I read it a few years ago. So I put it away again, even though I can't really remember it that well. Just didn't feel like re-reading it right now.
Jonelle wins the award for being what looks like the only one of us to finish the book. Good for you!
Okay, I have already forgotten names in the book, but suggest that everyone skip the first 2/3 of the book. Go to the chapter where the rich guys wife tries to surprise him with his daughter (there's a big party going on). That is when it picked up. "Eppie" really changes Silas' life, and I think y'all would enjoy it from there!
What's the August book?
Sorry that I forgot to post, but I read this book the month we were really supposed to read it! I enjoyed it, but mostly because my English teacher in 5th grade read it to us (along with other classics)
