Sam | 606 comments I was asked just now who were some of my favourite authors and thought to make this thread to find out from others too. Feel free to add some and who knows maybe they will become my favorite as well :D

For me I have a range... not in any particular order ;)

Nalini Singh
Patricia Briggs
Melina Marchetta
John Marsden
Julie Kagawa
Katie McGarry
Elizabeth Lowell
Richelle Mead
Dan Brown
Keri Arthur
Lynsay Sands
Markus Zuzak

Really I could keep going but I want to find out some of yours...

This is such a great thread topic!! Thanks for starting it! I don't know why I never though to make it! haha

Well, I feel like I read so many different books all the time, it is rare that I read a lot by one author. Even if I read a 3 book series, I feel like I need to read more from an author to really consider them a favorite. So, there are a lot that I like, just not a tun that I consider my favs. Here's the list:

Rick Rioridan
Melody Carlson
Ted Dekker

I might be missing one or two....but that's about it!

message 3: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments I can't really take the credit for the topic as it was Ryan who let me think of it. :D so thanks Ryan :)

he also said Ted Dekker was a favorite of his in 'Introduce Yourself'.

Indeed! He did start the thought process for you. I was reading along your convo while playing 2048(my new app obsession!!).

Ted Dekker is a Christian thriller author that is just amazing! I have only met a few people that have read his books and NOT gotten into them. They are really intense, and although they are my a Christian author and have biblical elements in them, it does not ever feel forced or like it is Dekkers way of trying to force something on the reader. Truly well done!

message 5: by Ria (new)

Ria | 41 comments I've read more than one series from both authors
Jennifer L. Armentrout
Richelle Mead
:D

message 6: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments I don't mind Jennifer L. Armentrout. I haven't yet read her Lux series but first came across her under the name J Lynn :)

message 7: by Ria (new)

Ria | 41 comments I personally loved the Lux series! It was the first series I read from her. Her books under J lynn are quite good too :)

message 8: by Dev (new)

Dev | 31 comments Another one of my favorite authors has to be Dean Koontz, just because of his Odd Thomas series. They are very well written with some dry humor.

message 9: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I read so many different genres, but some of my favorites are:

-Diana Galbaldon: I can't wait for her Outlander series to premiere next month on Starz!
-Stephen King: The Dark Tower series
-Robert Jordan
-Terry Goodkind
-Octavia Butler
-Jean Auel
-J.K. Rowling
-Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child: Pendergast series.

Way too many to list them all.

message 10: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments oh I do like J K Rowling! I've been meaning to read her other series The Casual Vacancy... have u read? any good?

message 11: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Sam wrote: "oh I do like J K Rowling! I've been meaning to read her other series The Casual Vacancy... have u read? any good?"

I haven't read any of Rowling's other books, but I'll get to them eventually!

message 13: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments Do you like all James Patterson books or just his YA?

message 14: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
Patterson does YA? I don't think I knew that before.... I was never interested in his normal stuff, but might take a look I he had some good YA!

message 15: by Sam (last edited Jul 13, 2014 08:54PM) (new)

Sam | 606 comments Well I thought it was classified YA? The series starts with Complete Maximum Ride Series, I've been meaning to read them for ages!

message 16: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
Hmmmm never heard of that one. Might need to give it a look! As if my reading list is not long enough already......

message 17: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments ^maximum ride is the first... I couldn't find just the first book for the link :)

IKR haha too long :D

message 18: by Ariana (new)

Ariana | 28 comments Sam wrote: "Do you like all James Patterson books or just his YA?"

I like all his books.

message 19: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments Do you have a favourite?... I know sometimes you just can't pick one? but rare occasions a certain book can stand out :D

message 20: by Sheena (new)

Sheena For me I can probably only say some official favorites are...

John Saul
Nora Roberts
C.L. Bevill

I have a ton more that I love, however I have a rule when it comes to liking anything (authors, musicians, actors), and that's the rule of 3. I have to read/listen/watch at least 3 separate pieces of work by that particular person for me to consider them a favorite. Series are excluded. I read a ton of series, and definitely over 3 books in those series, but I won't let myself consider them my favorites because, who knows, I could hate everything else they write lol. I'm a little weird haha :-P

message 21: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (abby_lucia) | 16 comments Awesome topic!

I have read many books and to be honest, I don't have like "favorite" authors. There are some authors that are in my top list though:

Sarah Dessen
Nicholas Sparks
Nora Roberts
Debbie Macomber
Jane Austen
Robert Liparulo (suspense)

Can you tell I'm a hopeless romantic? Lol! There are so many other authors that I love to read and I am always open to reading something new.

message 22: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments Thats not weird Sheena, I have a sort of similar thing that I do. I have to like more than one series/book of their's to put on my list. or I just really really enjoyed their work haha

message 23: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments I'm a hopeless romantic at times too Abigail :D I like Debbie Macomber, in fact the first book I read of hers I bought in this cute little town in Wales! the book was called A Good Yarn.

message 24: by Dev (new)

Dev | 31 comments Sam wrote: "^maximum ride is the first... I couldn't find just the first book for the link :)

IKR haha too long :D"

I think I have all the books except the last one. (I've heard too many disappointed reviews to read it.)

message 25: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments wow really, after getting all the books you're not going to read them... they must have been some really bad reviews.

message 26: by Dev (new)

Dev | 31 comments All the books except the last one had OK reviews. I read them, but I'm holding off on the last book because I've heard it's bad. I don't want to ruin the series for myself.

message 27: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments I really hate when that happens to a good series!

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments Sam wrote: "oh I do like J K Rowling! I've been meaning to read her other series The Casual Vacancy... have u read? any good?"

I got the Chapter 7 and quit. And I couldn't even remember what I read. Her writing outside HP is rather bland and generic. Even her Robert Galbraith stuff are boring as hell.

I like JK Rowling IF AND ONLY IF she's writing Harry Potter. Even that new short story was better than any of her mystery ones.

Shannon wrote: "Diana Galbaldon: I can't wait for her Outlander series to premiere next month on Starz!
"

YES YES YES!!! ME TOO!

I met Diana Gabaldon last month and she's an absolute joy!

---------

My favorites at the moment are:
* James Rollins
* Dan Brown
* Diana Gabaldon
* Ransom Riggs
* JK Rowling if she's doing HP
* JRR Tolkien
* Elizabeth Kostova

message 29: by AI (new)

AI (jaggedfoxes) | 22 comments I'm seeing that JK Rowling is a fav author...it is mine too! That's awesome! WWWWHHHHOOOO! GO HP! anyway...more authors i love/like...how i write the authors aren't in order

Veronica Roth
JK Rowling
James Dashner
Lois Lowry
Suzzanne Collins
Andrew Clements
Rachel Renee Russell
Rick Riordan
James Patterson (Only the Middle school series hadn't read his other books just yet)

There is like millions of other authors but this is the ones i can remember 4 now!

message 30: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments haha go HP alright. Its amazing what those books did to bring a generation back to reading books. Not saying that this was THE book but it helped for sure. Also makes me believe it started or put in motion the new craze of films from books. Some of the films are good others not so much but all in all the authors are getting noticed!

message 31: by Landen (new)

Landen | 73 comments I will have to come in and out of this thread, I'm just alwase fishing good authors, but some of them have to be

And many, many, many more to come

(Please excuse spelling errors)

message 32: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments haha I agree about many many more to come. I'm always adding to my own! for example I forgot to add Robyn Carr, I love both her Series tho prob Virgin River more as been reading them for a long time now! hmmm just been checking out Mark Frost and John Flanagan... which books of theirs do you recommend? message 35: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments Does anyone know if Suzanne Collins is bringing out anything new soonish?? all I could find are picture books...

message 36: by Sheena (new)

Sheena I'm not sure, but I've been wondering the same thing.

message 37: by Jared (new)

Jared If you've only read HG, read Gregor. They're really good

message 38: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments ok thanks... its now added to my TBR list :D

message 39: by Kat (new)

Kat Mccoy | 3 comments I feel the Hunger Games was good when I was younger..but now I don't think I could even pick the book up. Not that it's not a good book, just my opinion. For, in my opinion, an amazeballs dystopian novel with a new twist, try Stung by Bethany Wiggins. Anyone out there read it?

message 40: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments I haven't heard of it before now but it does sound good! Thanks for bringing to my attention!

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments Kat wrote: "I feel the Hunger Games was good when I was younger..but now I don't think I could even pick the book up. Not that it's not a good book, just my opinion. For, in my opinion, an amazeballs dystopian..."

I thought Mockingjay was awful in terms of writing style. It's so different from Catching Fire, which I thought was brilliant.

Idk, what's with the 3rd books in trilogies?

message 42: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
I've never heard of Stung, but I will for sure be looking it up! :)

message 43: by Audra (new)

message 46: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments oh I have some of Mercedes Lackey books but haven't yet read them. Do you have a favorite or would you say all of them :D

message 47: by Sam (last edited Jan 06, 2015 08:28PM) (new)

Sam | 606 comments @ Amal, I hear ya when you say... and many more :D I love finding a new author you really enjoy and then finding more of their books to read :)

message 48: by Luz (new)

Luz Molina | 2 comments Well favourite author is kind of hard I mean there are so many different writing styles but I have to say I am in love with Patrick Rothfuss. I think his characters have depth and they are all a little bit broken and with secrets and even if it is a fantasy book they feel real in an unrealistic situation . I would not recommend this author to everyone but it definitely got me wondering and wanting more.

message 49: by Suraj (last edited Jan 03, 2015 06:16AM) (new)
