Lorraine bit her lip and glanced up at Mr. Collins several times. She smiled wider each time. He was handsome and he wrote books!!! Who could have been any more awesome!!?

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

He lead her to the back of the store to the sci-fi and fantasy section. Pointing to books covered in blood and monsters. "These are my books."

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

She reached up. Her glowed hands grabbing the book. She smiled. "It's amaIng..." She whispered a smile on her lips. Her mask still covering her face.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

"Well you should read them, if you like violence."

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

"I like everything..." She whispered. She suddenly frowned. She was late... Her father was going to murder her.... She put the book back hesitantly. "I'll buy it once I get some money saved...." She whispered

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

"Why not just get it now? I'll buy it for you." He grabbed the first one in the series and signed it. Walking up to the register he pulled out some money.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Lorraine followed him. She blushed.
"No masks in the store miss."
Lorriane blushed. "Sorry!" She pulled it off and blushed even more. Her red hair falling over her beautiful features. He was buying her a book!!

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

"Here you go. Don't go selling this just because I signed it."

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Lorraine looked up at him with her breath taking blue eyes. "I wouldn't do that. I have to read it! My father barely even buys me books. Let alone anything.." She whispered. She blushed. Make up. He bought her lots of cover up for the beatings...

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

"Well, he sounds like a bad father. Why would a father deprive his daughter from literature?" He sighed, What has this world come to????

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

He did a lot more then that. But... Lorraine couldn't tell him. She couldn't tell anyone... "He isn't my real father. I was adopted.." She nodded.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

"Oh, well at least you have a family." He smiled, "We should go back."

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

But her family abused her. Hurt her. She nodded. "Yeah.... Hey wanna walk eith me for a bit?" She asked. "I'm Lorraine by the way"

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

"Well, maybe, we still have to get back to school." He laughed. "Nice to met you Lorraine."

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

She liked his laugh. She moved and walked a little closer to him. A faint blush on her cheeks. She smiled. "Nice to meet you too" she smiled.

"We should go back to the dance." He said as he unlocked his car, a black impala. He blasted the music as he drove back to the school.

She smiled at him the whole time. Her heart skipping a beat ever now and then. She smiled to herself.

Prosper Novak enjoyed the bookstore. Not in a let's-hang-and-buy-a-book-way, but in a let-me-free-and-wander-for-five-hours-straight-until-either-my-feet-or-wallet-give-in-kind of way. It was true. He could spent hours and hours browsing in basically any section of the establishment. He could start in music, and art, but then he'd go into sciences, math, physics. By the end of the day, there would not be one book left unturned, and he would go home with a plastic bag or two, full to the top.

It was no surprise then that he would spend his mornings of his winter break stuck in there. Sure, he'd call his friends and hang out for a while, but the mornings were his; he'd wake up, take a brisk shower, put on some jeans and a hoodie or whatever he could find first in his closet, and ride his brother's old Kawasaki to the bookstore. His hair was disheveled, in general his appearance was messy, as if he'd waken up in a rush, but he couldn't care less. he wasn't there to pick up girls, and usually he kept to himself anyways. Right now he was wearing a pair of dark jeans, a light blue shirt, and a navy blue christmas sweater; this was patterned with reindeers and horizontal lines, and was courtesy of the pair of boxes he got of his brother's clothes after his passing. His old converse shoes were squeaking against the floor as he tried to reach a high shelf from the music section (a favored one of his), and three books rested on his left arm: one about music theory, another about the life of Bach, and the third of the Beatles' best hits, the fourth one he was trying to reach being about music education. Why didn't he leave the books aside first, and then reach for another one? You'd have to ask him.

With the crisp, cool touches of winter making themselves known; the winter break for the year finally beginning, Ember was in dire need of something to keep her occupied. Most of her friends had gone off on their respective vacations. Aspen here, Cabo there, "The 'rents are taking me to Fiji this year!" Yeah, it was all fine and dandy for them but it left the girl in a bit of a bind. Of course she still had friends in town, but considering it was drawing close to the holiday season-- most were busy. Leaving Ember to mostly fend for herself. With that, and it being the first day of break, the raven haired girl found herself standing outside one of the many bookstores within the city. That should be enough to keep her from floating through boredom, right?

Pulling her black winter coat tightly around herself, Ember pushed open the doors and released a long held breath. Finally she could let her mind free itself for several moments. It had been some time since she'd last entered the store; having taken an interest in shopping online as of late, Ember found the process to be a bit of an inconvenience. But not that day. In fact! For the occasion she had actually taken the time to make herself look decent. Grey sweater that was a bit baggy paired with a black skirt, thick black tights, grey socks and black boots. It was perfect for the winter weather. Slowly Ember made her way deeper into the store, keeping an eye out for any displays or genre names that would possibly catch her name. But what type of book was she even in the mood for? Something to provoke deep thoughts of life or-- the most frivolous dribble she could find? The thought left her rather soon, however, spotting someone that appeared to have one too many books in their hand to be reaching so recklessly for another. "Not to be rude but you might want to be careful. You don't want to drop anything."

As soon as the female voice reached Prosper's ears, the silence to which he was accustomed was broken. He didn't know anyone in the small establishment, though naturally someone could've entered in the two hours he had last seen the door. He had been too busy browsing to notice, his mind far away and his nose buried in the paper pages. In any case, he didn't expect to be noticed, much less talked to, and so his embarrassment began.

Startled, he jumped backwards without control of his actions. His shoes squeaked loudly once more while the books in his arm fell to the floor, and the fourth one made a stop in his head before finally reaching the wooden ground. "Shit" He mumbled, rubbing his right hand against his head, his eyes squinting after the hit. He looked sideways to the owner of the voice and was surprised to see a girl, about his age, standing fairly close. He had to admit she was pretty, and unconsciously his hand immediately went to his messy hair. The curious thing was, she seemed familiar, but he couldn't quite place where she had seen her. He wasn't used to being noticed by the opposite sex, so in a weak attempt to dismiss the awkwardness of his clumsiness, he stifled a laugh before looking down and then back at her. "Too late for that now I guess" He kneeled down to pick up the fallen books, the dark hair on the back of his head spiking at the thought of the girl's stare on him, his hands started to sweat slightly. Prosper found himself hoping she'd do anything but point and laugh.

There were some reactions that were generally expected for any given situation, and then there were the unique and uncommon. And this case just happened to be the latter. With being in such a public place, Ember had to wonder just why the male was so surprised by someone speaking to him. Then again-- maybe it was a bit odd to simply call out to a stranger without any sort of warning. But...wait-- Just as one of the books bounced from the other's head and onto the floor, the girl got a good look of him. And found he wasn't actually a stranger after all.

With a sweeping motion over the back of her skirt to ensure it would stay in place, Ember crouched down in front of the other; balancing perfectly on her toes, and arms resting upon her knees. Yes, she was most definitely familiar with this boy. She'd seen him in passing while wandering the halls; spotted him at the fringe of her vision at every one of her cousin's gigs and band practices; spoken to him on occasion but only briefly. "You know, Prosper, you really should work on that clumsiness of yours," she finally spoke up. Not wanting the boy to think she was teasing in a harsh manner, Ember kept her tone light and playful as. The situation was rather amusing but nothing that warranted an outright laugh or the need to make fun of anyone. So, she simply tipped her head to the side; amusement playing at the corners of her lips before peeking up to decipher what part of the store she was in. "'Music', huh? I don't think I've ever really looked through the books in this section." She was making idle conversation; an attempt to keep the atmosphere from becoming too awkward. A true skill practically at the level of being a super power, if you asked her.

Prosper's nervousness only grew when the girl kneeled next to him. Again he cursed himself for not brushing his head in the morning. What if it smelled bad? God, did he smell bad? He didn't think it was likely, but then again, what did he know, right? He looked through the corner of his eye, and his mind started wandering. He knew her, she was definitely familiar, but he couldn't quite place where he had seen her. It wasn't until after he had fixed the books in a perfect pile and she had uttered his name that something clicked. He face palmed himself mentally. Of course he knew that girl! In school, in band practice, he had even talked to her some time, that's why he recognized the voice. He turned to her, a newfound confidence given by the fact that she wasn't a complete stranger giving him the courage to offer a smile. "Not all of us can be as graceful as you, Em" He teased back, comfortable enough not to stand up, but to sit back down cross-legged, inviting the girl to sit down with a hand gesture. But of course not comfortable enough to properly relax, the back of his neck still was slightly wet from the sweat after all.

"You should," he answered, his voice steadying as he started speaking of a comfortable topic. Truthfully, it was a relief she had even mentioned the books, otherwise he would've just sat there, awkwardly turning the objects next to him. "there's all kinds of stuff in this place" He looked around to his beloved shelves, a strange look in his eyes, as if he was far away. He quickly turned back to Ember, hoping she didn't find that weird. Prosper signaled to the books on the floor, taking the one about music education. He turned it to the back cover and stared at it for a minute. "Did you know that mastering a musical instrument literally changes your brain? Like, it improves the way our brain processes parts of spoken language" He blurted out, making hand gestures around his head as if to highlight the fact he repeated from one of his books. Then he remembered she was there, and placed the book down, his ears turning red. He wasn't used to speaking without thinking, unless he had something worthy to talk about. "I-I mean, I think" He muttered "I r-read that somewhere"

Being around such a skittish and easily flustered individual was as foreign to Ember as any language she had ever failed to pick up on. With just a glance the girl could tell more thoughts than were deemed necessary were coursing through Prosper's mind just then, and she wasn't all too sure what to do about it. Most of her friends knew how to carry themselves in social situations; Damien practically thrived upon it, and Ember herself enjoyed a bit of spotlight here and there. So, was she meant to say or do something to make the boy more comfortable? Was there any type of manual for this, because if so Ember was desperately in need. But, thankfully, the other party seemed to loosen up just a bit and the girl found herself offering up an exaggerated grin. "This is true. I was gifted by the Gods themselves with my impeccable grace," she shot back just as playfully, sinking to the floor. Cautious of her skirt, Ember angled herself so her back was to one of the shelves; legs outstretched and crossed at the ankle before her.

Once seated and settled in her place, a set of dark brown eyes began wandering for a brief moment. Of course she'd heard what Prosper had said, but there was something to the books around them; random titles popping out more so than the rest. There was a type of restless energy to that small area of the store. "Hmm, you're right, I should." Ember had possessed an interest in music from a young age; her parents placing her into various lessons only for the girl to find more love for drums than anything else. But never had she read a book about music itself. And she had to admit, the science and philosophy behind it all was actually fascinating. But being the slight scatter brain that she was, she'd often be distracted by other books of interest. Of course just as her attention returned to Prosper his returned to her, leaving her a bit-- awkward (yes, Ember could in fact feel awkward from time to time) by the eye contact. And she simply lowered her gaze to one of the lower shelves, once again focusing in on what the boy beside her was saying. "Really? Maybe my brain's a bit screwed up; I totally remember just barely passing French class," the girl jokingly tossed out, a small bubbling of laughter following suit. "Honestly though, that sounds...pretty cool. D'ya know why it works that way?" Ember being Ember, and reading that slight stuttering to Prosper's words, the girl was sure he thought that perhaps she wasn't interested. That maybe she found him talking about such a thing as odd. And that couldn't be any more further from the truth.

Hillary walked through the book lanes. She smiled running her finger along the books. She needed to do some research on the school an she needed a book for school. She sighed glancing down the rows and columns looking for the book she needed. Today she wore jeans that fitted her curves. She then had on a black t shirt. No cleavage. An odd view of Hillary. But her hair was curled and she had on makeup.

Hillary turned now facing Kaspers way. Now she was looking at him. She ran her fingers along the books once again and froze right in front of Kasper. "Going on a diet are you?" Hillary smirked noticing Kaspers shoes. "I don't think you need to do that.." She purred and laughed lightly.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

She didn't want to wait. She found her arms wrapping around his neck and found herself hugging him. "Mmhmm..." She giggled slightly and pulled back smiling at him. "How are you?" She asked biting her lip.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

"Unpacking. Sorry I left early the other day without saying buy i... I had to get home an do some things. It had nothing to do with you. I promise..." She whispered gripping his hands. Her eyes sad.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

"Everything's fine, just have a lot to do is all. With arranging and stuff." She murmured playing with his fingers not looking up at his face. She bit her lip nervously and sighed softly. She wanted to tell him but then she didn't want to tell him.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

Hillary rolled her eyes slapping him on the shoulder playfully. She gave him a wink. "You sure you weren't looking for diet books?" She laughed teasing him. She crossed her arms over her chest looking at him awaiting his answer not answering his question.

Hillary laughed with a roll of her eyes. She reached out and hugged him after he tugged at her hair. "You are already perfect..." She whispered into his ear. Her cheeks reddened. She didn't know why she said that. The words had just slipped out of her mouth. She bit her lip. Hiding her face within his neck.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

She noticed something was wrong and worry filled her. She tightened her hand son his. Giving it a squeeze. "Now?" She whispered in answer to her question. She then leaned in and kissed him softly. Wrapping her arms around his shoulders pulling herself closer to the warmth of his body. She wanted to be in his arms. Like the night of their date... Cuddling. Falling asleep in eachothers arms. She never had that before.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

The kiss was intoxicating. Unbelievably amazing. His lips left her lips numb and her body felt as if it was on fire. Holding out a hand she stroked his cheek and gazed into his eyes. "I think it's time I showed you my secrets... My home." She whispered softly and pulled him close kissing him once again. She didn't know if he'd push her away due to her low class. She hoped not. She... For once... Cared for someone.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

A blush crept up Hillary's cheeks, she ducked her head embarrassed and looked up only slightly before whispering, "May we take your car...?" She bit her lip and moved, shuffling from one foot to the other. She could not come out right now and tell him she was not who he thought she was but.. she needed him to be okay. She moved and laced her fingers through his, leading him out of the bookstore and to the parking lot.

The sun was bright today, the sky a bright lovely blue, not a cloud in sight. It made Hillary a bit more hopeful that Kasper wouldn't run out of her home completely disgusted. Hope. That was a big word even for Hillary to use. There was not much hope for her, a broken tool, only known as misfortunate to those around her. She squeezed Kaspers hand. She was scared.
