This seems like another YA book with Insta-love. Did you feel that way?? What do you think about insta-love in books? Just a way to get the plot moving? Is the author being lazy??

The romance in this book is pure stupidity. Gavriel and Tana have no chemistry and/or common interests. They just meet and fall in love. I think that Holly Black should have written a more engaging and heart warming romance instead of this crap! I would enjoy the book more had there been a better romantic storyline.

Megan Mweemba (meganlovesbooks) I'm really sick of insta-love unless it's done well (which is rare). It wasn't done well in this book, in my opinion.

Oscar | 51 comments I agree that the romance here wasn't really developed and it seemed more like an infatuation than anything else when everything is said and done.

I wasn't completely bothered by it since we didn't have to endure a cliched love triangle and I can see how the love sublpot pushed the book's plot towards the end.

However, replace that love subplot with a friendship and the plot could still be driven in the same direction. I do think these type of novels, for better or worse, almost demand a love element and perhaps the writer felt forced to include it.

Megan Mweemba (meganlovesbooks) That's a good point about how friendship could've propelled the plot the same way. I was definitely really glad that Tana annnd the other guy whose name I can't seem to remember just stayed friends.

The romance did seem very infatuated, but it wasn't horrible. It wasn't the worst insta-love I've encountered, unfortunately. I didn't really reach the romance part of the novel, though; I honestly had to quit at about 30%, which is a shame. I almost always try to reach the 50% mark before I call it quits.

I wonder if in this book.. we could've just had two friends that really were interested in each other. Then at the end of the book left it up i the air that maybe they would end up together. I don't really think Gavriel had to actually say the words "I love you". I am sure this is because it is assumed that every girl wants to tame a bad boy and make them love you. Sophie is right though.. this isn't the worst instalove I have read. In fact.. I feel that the instalove didn't really show up till the very end of the book.
