I have an eReader (Kobo Glo) and I love it dearly. I'm going to put it out there and just say that I always read eBooks and I actually prefer it from reading a hardcover or paperback.

I know that many people disagree, but it's just more convenient for more to read on the eReader, it's cheaper, extremely portable and it has a light function for late night reading that doesn't strain the eyes.

But there are many things about physical books that I really like. The COVERS! That's probably the main argument in my opinion for physical books. I love just looking at books and admiring their beauty. A lot of people say the smell of a book is priceless, however I haven't really noticed the smell of a book, maybe that's just me lol!

I would LOVE to hear you guys' opinion on this one!

Jordyn | 106 comments I choose physical book over ebooks although I love both!
What I do most of the time is by the actual book and then get it also on my kindle. With ebooks you can read hands free which allows you to read more! And it's easier to carry the book on my phone than the actual book sometimes.

Although... I absolutely LOVE physical books. I love the smell the feel and the sound of turning the pages(yes I'm weird haha). I love having a mini library in my room of all of my books and I love their covers.
I love both(:

Completely off topic, I know, but has anyone like, been reading in bed and then there physical book or ebook like falls flat on their face, while you were trying to hold it above your head to read. I just wanted to know if I was the only one with the extremely weak arms lol!

Jessica Physical books. I like to actually hold the copy in my hand.

Kaitlyn | 83 comments Physical books! *heart eye emoji* I love having the actual book in my had, flipping the pages and the smell (._. yes the smell). eBooks or Audible or whatever is no where as good as physical.

Physical makes, in my opinion, reading have more of a cozier and a more relaxed feel. :) It just seems right.

I also think that having it in an electrical device distracts you more from reading, which can really throw you off track of the book.

electra | 159 comments I'm neutral on the topic. I like reading physical books because you can see and feel the cover in real life and you can look at it from your bookshelf or dresser or whatever. I'm not big on smelling books. I mean, I smell them from time to time, but not every time I see one.
I've never read on a proper eReader, just my tablet and tablets are horrible for reading because they strain your eyes >.< I would definitely love to try an eReader at some point in my life. They're worlds more compatible, and easier to use, especially when your wrists hurt from yoga or something and you don't feel like holding up that ginormous hardback!
Really, I don't see a problem with either; both have their strengths and weaknesses and I can't blame people for having a preference as long as they don't shove it down someone's throat. At the end of the day, they're both books!

Amen, Amee! Well said!!

Connie (proseandconnie) | 481 comments I recognize all the advantage of e-books: typically cheaper, take up way less space, built-in dictionary, can read in the dark, and portable.
But there's something about just holding that book, you know? Especially hardcovers. Flipping the actual paper, being able to slide in a bookmark at a stopping point, closing the book when you're done. Since physical books are more expensive, I usually just check them out from the library, and buy it if I like it.
For some reason I read slower on e-readers, but I don't mind them. My iPad is home to some very good books, but I plan to buy them all in physical form later on. Another thing I love about physical books...seeing them all lined up on your shelf!

Johans | 16 comments Physical Books!! Like Connie said, there's just something special about holding a book when you are reading it, and the beauty of the hardback and the covers, and the smell.. oh the smell is priceless (I know... weird ._.) I personally don't like eBooks and I think I will never, ever read an eBook... I prefer the good old ways haha

Connie (proseandconnie) | 481 comments @Johans nothing weird about the smell of books, I can relate with you~ I don't know if it's the paper or the ink or what, but it's just different with the actual book.

Dimitra (dimmyfa) | 10 comments I have a sort of a "ritual" when I start reading a book. I prefer paperbacks or hardbacks of any size.
I touch the book and feel it, I open it and hear the spine crack a bit, touch the paper and smell it.
It sounds creepy and ridiculous, I know, but it's something that I always did and still do.
So, yes, I prefer the physical books.
But at the moment I'm in search for a tablet, because I have some e-books that I haven't read yet! I hate e-books but it's time to give them a shot, I think.

Connie (proseandconnie) | 481 comments @Dimitra haha, it doesn't sound creepy! I love being able to touch, smell, and hear the paper of a physical book ;)

When I first started with e-books, I really disliked them. But after a bit, I got more accustomed to them, and now I'm fine with them~ Good luck!

message 14: by Johans (new)

Johans | 16 comments @Dimitra not creep at all.. I don't have that specific ritual lol but I do love to feel the cover (hardback) and smell the pages when I buy a new book :3

Suria Selvaraja (suria_selvaraja) | 8 comments I have to admit that im not an e-book reader, I relly felt very uncomfortable & i dont really enjoy the story when i read through my tablet. I love to hold, smell & sleep with my physical book ( only God knows how many times the book drop on my head LOL). I kept all my books in my bedroom & whenever i see my books i felt some kind of positive energy :)

message 16: by Dimitra (new)

Dimitra (dimmyfa) | 10 comments @Suria same here! I thought I was the only one! It's quite comforting for some reason, to stare at my books around me! :P I'm like "aaah...my children..." LOL
Bookaholics are strange creatures...yes we are... :P
