The Grishaverse discussion

Hi everyone!

So for weeks I have been desperately trying to find a new series to dive into - and I have discovered The Grishaverse.

It is a little intimidating and I am not really sure where to start. I ordered The Language of Thorns.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to begin??

You should definitely start with Shadow and Bone. That is the first book that Leigh Bardugo wrote in the Grishaverse. Since its the first it introduces you to the world better than any of her other books. Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom are by far my favorites out of all of her books but there are nods to the grisha triology in them that you dont catch unless you've read the first books previously. They are all amazing though, I hope you enjoy!!!

I agree with Rae! The Six of Crows duology is my favorite, but you'll appreciate the easter eggs in them if you read the Shadow and Bone trilogy first.

The Language of Thorns is a collection of fairytales within the Grishaverse, but I suggest reading them after Shadow and Bone or after the Six of Crows duology!

I would start with the grisha trilogy (Shadow and Bone, Seige and Storm and, Ruin and Rising) then read the six of crows duology (six of crows, crooked kingdom) then finish with the Language of Thorns. I would finish with this because it tells you about all of the stories that the characters in the books listed above would have read when they were young. I have read all of these books and they are my all time favorite series ever.

Just finished Six of Crows yesterday and dived straight into Crooked Kingdom (Yes, I bought crooked kingdom just an hour after i finished the first book and YES IT IS THATTTT GOOOOOD!)

I agree to the suggestion of reading Shadow and Bone first though. You do not need to but It's good because Shadow and Bone is really where the backbone of the Grisha World is being made and it;ll give you a clearer idea of what is happening and what the Grishas are. (I have not read Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising so I can safely say you do not need to read the whole trilogy if you want to dive into SOC but there are perks if you do!)

There are yes and no's to what Nabilla said. Yes you should read the grisha trilogy before the six of crows duology but no you have to read all of the trilogy.

Thanks for the advice!! I am only on page 40 of Shadow and Bone and I can already tell I'm hooked into this universe.

I plan on reading the entire triology then moving on to SOC duology then going to Language of Thorns. I am so tempted to read Language of Thorns because the artwork is so intriguing but I put it down and am trying to maintain self control lol

I definitly plan on reading the entire trilogy before diving into the duology before diving into Language of Thorns. Like I said up there ^, it's so hard for me not to go into Language of Thorns because the artwork is soooo enticing!! But I am restraining and am on page 40 of Shadow and Bone - already hooked and can't wait to read more on my lunch break.

i meant if she wanted to she can read the soc after shadow and bone but yes ofc you should read all of the trilogy but it is still possible to have read shadow and bone and undertsnad the world of grisha!

if you would rate language of thorns so far, what would you give it? Im so curious Ive wanted to get my hands of them for quite some time now!

I would rate it a 5 I love every single story I have read and the illustrations are so cool to look at while your reading. Also it is cool because why you read you look over and you know exactly what the drawings mean. It is just an amazing site!

I’m david (he/ him). My friends got me into the shadow and bone trilogy and I’ve been obsessed with the Grishaverse ever since. I’m currently reading Six of Crows and love it! Excited to meet you all and talk about all things Grisha.

Just a suggestion to anyone who hadn’t finished all the books, don’t look through this community. Their are many spoilers without warnings

I have started reading Six of crows and Goodreads recommended me ACOTAR based on that. I AM SO CONFUSED (I'm a subscriber to WithCindy). SHOULD I BE WORRIED ???

There are no smut scenes if that's what you are concerned about

I'm so excited to finish all the Grishaverse books.

I know shows peeps are going to come here soon, so if you do, do you have any S2 theories? I’m curious to what people who haven’t read the books think.

I already have so many spoilers on IG so mine doesn't count and I made the beautiful mistake of reading King of Scars duology before reading any other books. But I loveeeeeeed them. And I know that I'm gonna dislike the last book of Shadow and Bone trilogy because I'm obsessed with Darkling and hated Mal.

Don't be worried - they have nothing in common and their are no, well, ACOTR-style scenes. They are only recommending it because they're both pretty popular so a lot of people have read both. I've been rec'd Harry Potter for reading Macbeth.....these usually have nothing to do with each other.

Thank you so much for reassuring me ! I am new to the Grishaverse AND to Goodreads (because I am basically a lazy reader). I have started reading Six of Crows and the dialogue is so witty. I. LOVE. IT.
