Norm017 | 158 comments This is an attempt to identify a book whose title I thought I remembered (I thought it was "Ghosts of the Ninth Attack") but I've been unable to find by searching for it. Nor can I remember the authors name.

The plot as I remember it involves a newly formed bomber squadron early in WWII, they have taken on the number of a bomber squadron that was wiped out during a raid in WWI and immediately disbanded.

On their missions they keep seeing WWI era bombers and other signs that they are haunted by the ghosts of the original squadron, this culminates in an attack on a German warship in which victory is only obtained because they Germans were shooting at planes that were not in fact there.

Anyone have any idea what the book is?

Was this published about 5 years ago? In the 90s? 80s? 70s?
