Just finished chapter 10 so I wanted to share my thoughts before going on. Definite spoilers ahead. :p
First I want to comment on the stories. I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about the stories between chapters at first, but when we hit the one about Safire’s parents, it made me so emotional and I was actually kind of sad that we didn’t have one in the several chapters following it. I like that they provide background history in an interesting way. It’s definitely unique and I like that it ties into the story with how the telling of the old stories and such being forbidden.
The dragons!!!! I love how they’re described, but it’s a bit tragic that their only purpose in the story at this point is so that Asha can hunt them. I feel like by the end she’ll change her tune and there will be some great understanding, but I’m usually Team Dragon in anything dragons appear in so I wish they weren’t trying to eradicate them. I’m conflicted though because I want Asha to hunt down Kozu and be able to get out of her marriage to Jarek...that dude is absolutely awful!
I’m really liking it though! I am finding the pacing a little slow, but I did notice it was already starting to pick up by chapter 10 so I’m looking forward to the reading the rest!!!
