Addicted to YA discussion

I was surprised when I saw no one has made this topic yet since the show is really popular. Anyone else love this show? :)

I love the integrity of the Archie comics , as I used to read them all the time when I was younger. Hence, I really dislike the show because it is nothing like the Archie comics and betty and veronica comics I read lol. But I'm sure there's other people here who like it. This is just my two cents in Riverdale.

I didn’t read the comics so I don’t know what they were like. How are the comics different from the show?

Confession: When I watch the show I get really nervous and scared so I play the High School Musical soundtrack in the background.

Can we go back to season 1?

Yea the comics are very different from the show but the producers did say this would be darker than the comics but I can see how you would dislike this, if a book I read had a movie or a TV show and the plot was different I would be disappointed too.

I love this show so much I finished the first season in less than 3 days. Amazing. I haven't seen the reveals of the second season I am just going to wait until they go on netflix. I don't like all of the commercials and I just went through the last season of Teen Wolf and there were so many commercials so no spoilers on the next season!

My kids were waiting for season 2 and I was so intrigued by why there were intrigued, I binge watched season 1. Now I'm frustrated it's only on once per week (bit like the old days).
I think there's a killer and also a copycat....

I lost any respect for Archie after the whole Ms. Grundy thing. I don’t understand why that was in there or how Archie as a character could’ve been in that relationship. Betty and Veronica deserve better.

yeah it was an interesting way to go with the plot (Archie and Ms Grundy) so early on but provided the reason for him not owning up to hearing the gunshot, so maybe a little too staged? But I feel like he's redeemed himself since then. Interesting they killed her off!

Yeah it does make for a good enough reason for the gunshot, but I feel like other scenarios could've worked better and been a better thing to put on the screen rather than a highschool sophomore having a romantic relationship with a teacher at that highschool. All sorts of wrong. But I guess it makes for good drama which is what tv shows are all about.

Yes, unfortunately TV shows seem to have different rules to YA novels! More sensationalist - and they kill off characters with ease, only to introduce someone brand new from nowhere. Lol.

I really like the noir feel of the show. The casting is really great. The actors are wonderful and talented. I don't feel the same pull that I did with Vampire Diaries but I enjoy Riverdale. I want to see Dark Betty go nuts. LOL.

HA HA. Yes. Dark Betty is an intriguing character...you think she's the cliche, but she's not.

I just started watching the show and I’m hooked!! Riverdale is one of my all-time favorite shows. I can’t stop watching it and I am completely invested in all the characters lives

Does anyone else agree that season 2 just isn’t as good as season 1? The characters aren’t acting like themselves and the plot is sort of all over the place and I really don’t like the Serpents plot line!

I agree its not as good. etty was strong in the first season. This season she isnt

Completely agree! I feel like they can't does who's the main love interest is as the moment for any of the characters and the plot seems way OTT with the serpents.

Hopefully it'll get better :)

I just watched the mid season finale for riverdale last night. Yes, I agree. I first started watching the first season on netflix and was hooked. Then i started watching the second season. Im not as hooked as I was, with the second season. I liked the first season better.

I have to agree that the second season wasn’t so great. Everyone had a character switch. Veronica did nothing but make out with Archie. Blossom had no purpose (other than stalking the pussy cat doll girl). And Beth and Archie only played detective together toward the end. It was all over the place and the creepy janitor was a waste of time. I hope next season is better. I did enjoy the finale though.

Watching season 3 now and I am really into the new mystery. What do you guys think? Theories on the gargoyle king?

Who is your favorite couple on the show? I think Cheryl and Toni are my favorites but I really like Betty & Jughead too!

I really LOVE Toni and I cannot stop shipping Cheryl and Toni.
I have no trouble believing that the Gargoyle King is really one of the Midnight Club, but I don't know who it could be...

I have this theory that it is Hermione bc Hiram seems too obvious since everyone knows he's the big bad with everything else. Could be wrong but I was thinking perhaps the Gargoyle King is a queen? Either way, I love that they can always keep me guessing like last season with the Black Hood.

Hermione could be it yeah, she wasn't really close with anyone back then (except Fred). I thought about Penelope as well, but I don't really know why. I think the plot (Griffins and Gargoyles / Archie in prison) is really weird, more so than season 2, but I like that I don't really know what to expect. With the Black Hood I thought it was Hal from the first episode of season 2, the only surprise was that it was first the janitor XD
I really hope to see more of Toni though... She was promoted to main cast, but she is never on screen :(

I was thinking about Penelope too. Good call. I agree. I'm not sure what to make of the prison connection. I also want both Cheryl and Toni to get more screen time. They deserve it! :)

I know nothing about this show other than the name, but I just discovered that Luke Perry is in it, and I find this funny!

I haven't seen him for years, and suddenly he's in is fifties. :D

After the latest episode I've got a new theory about the Gargoyle King. I don't know if you have seen it already, so it's in a spoiler :)

(view spoiler)[I think that maybe the Sisters have something to do with it, since they were all painting the King. Maybe they work together with the farm, but I dont know that. Anyhow, in the flashback episode, Penelope was with the sisters for quite a while, maybe she picked the idea up from them. I dont think she is the king (or queen), but maybe someone who works with the sisters is? In that case she was just following direct orders from them. (hide spoiler)]

Riverdale needs to be more original tho. I lost interest this season. The actors are so great but writers need to get they shit together

I love this show sooooooo much but it's true, the writing does suck and makes me cringe. I love Bughead and Veggie!!!! Some of my top OTPS

OMG, my sister and I loved the Archie comics, but I never started watching Riverdale because I thought it sounds too much like a Modernized trashy version!

I love this show but I have to agree, the writing is PRETTY BAD. And this whole gargoyle king stuff is kinda dumb. Why can't we just recreate season 1?

Someone please tell me whether or not it is worth it to finish off season 3 and go on to season 4. I was about halfway through season 3 when I stopped because it was getting too weird (even for me) and I couldn't follow along because I was pushing myself to watch another episode through long periods of not watching it.

So is it worth it?

Of course it is worth it!!! You should totally watch it. Today's episode was on of the best (of all the seasons) according to me. I know it got weird and creepy in the 3rd season but I think you should complete it.

I suppose I should give it another go (I stopped at season 3 episode 7) and finish the season at least. I did really enjoy the first 2 seasons.

Yeah 100% it is ok. There is some more mature content, but it should be fine for anyone 13 and up.

I loved Jughead in the beginning but now he is just making me so mad. Season 5 is really weird so far, lol.

I just started watching, almost done with season 1 though lol

I started this show by expecting the fun element it had in the comics but this show was far from fun. It has a dark element which I didn't know I would like, but it turns out I absolutely love it.

But I'm a bit disappointed with the fifth season, but I'm still watching it in hopes of it becoming better lol
