This topic will be for anyone who wants to add other members as 'buddies' on their NaNo pages to support one another in their writing goals as the contest runs. As of 20 minutes ago, I officially (re)signed up for NaNo under the account name @Inkerina, so if you're seeking a buddy, I'm definitely available :-) !
But some of you who may be have little (or contrarily, a lot) of experience writing might say, Why would I want a buddy?
1. Buddies are like YOU. A writing buddy is the equivalent of someone who you workout with everyday. They may not be Fabio the tightly-ripped trainer (that only exists on magazine covers, by the way) , but they're exactly what you need: someone who understands your goals because they are going through the exact same thing. Therefore, they're not going to hackle you about slightly dipping your word count goal, but because they see themselves in you and want success for the both of you, they'll be your biggest cheerleader (and coach if need be)!
2. Buddies foster better writing habits. Ever heard of the study that says if share your goals with someone, you're more likely to follow through with that committment? That's where NaNo buddies come into play. Their purpose is to support you (and you support them) in all you endeavors, without the mental suffocation. And if you're lucky enough, you and your buddy can arrange a "writing schedule" so you can write and finish your word goals at the same time!
3. Buddies build friendships ! Of course, being a buddy has dual obligations! You eventually get to know the person that you're constantly chatting on GR/NaNo with, and friendships form. Who knows who you'll come across? Your next literary partner in crime could literally be staring at your profile through a screen, and you don't even know!
