Around the Year in 52 Books discussion

This prompt is based on the board game "Clue" (or "Cluedo" as it is called in some countries).

For those of you who are not familiar with the game, it starts with a murder taking place in a closed house. By asking questions, the players have to figure out which character was the murderer, in which room it took place and which weapon was used, the first one to find all three being the winner.

In the original game, there were 6 weapons: lead pipe, revolver, rope, candlestick, dagger (or knife) and wrench. This prompt is about reading a book that has one of those weapons on the cover or in the title.

Other weapons were added to the original ones in later versions of the game (poison, dumbbell, trophy, axe, bomb, syringe), and they also made collector themed versions (Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, etc.). The idea behind the prompt might have been to stick to the original weapons, but this challenge is flexible and if you really want to read a book with a light sabre on the cover, feel free to do it ;)

Note: you don't have to read the specific edition that has the weapon on the cover, as long as one exists.

I found two for this and I don't know what to do because I really want to read them both :-(

I will probably read two books for this prompt because The Hangman (Louise Penny's Inspector Armand Gamache#6.5) is only 96 pages. And, the font on cover of The Quiet Game is somehow irresistible to me.

For my children's challenge, I am going to read Avi's Murder at Midnight which has a dagger (and blood dripping from it!) on the cover. This book would also work for other prompts (#7, 13, 35, 44, and 48).

I am going to read Let the Great World Spin because it is on my TBR and I,have wanted to read it for a while, I like playing Clue but have not played it in quite a while.

Debutantes & Daggers - as is this one, is this a trend? Also, why is always the left hand?

The Rose & the Dagger - dagger both in the title and the cover (saddly, none in the left hand)

Any of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series would qualify for this I believe since they all have daggers on the cover and spines ;) If paranormal romance is your thing.

I read this one that just came in Blood Fury :P

I read A Gathering of Shadows by VE Scwab for this. It has Delilah Bard on the cover holding two daggers.

Clue was my favorite game as a kid. I loved it! Now I probably wouldn't have the patience to play, but if they had some sort of app or computerized version, I would try it.

I was going to read Shalimar the Clown for this but then I saw the cover for Station Eleven which is on my TBR list. These are daggers, right?

Thanks, I've heard good things and was struggling a bit with this one so hopefully this isn't cheating. ;)

I read A Quiet Life in the Country for this prompt.

This book was just an "ok" for me. I think I've read so many English mysteries set in the early 20th century that nothing seems fresh to me anymore. This book was light and made me laugh at times, so I guess that is a good thing. I enjoyed it enough to read the next book in the series but don't know that I will go further.

This book is the first in a new series for me, and it kindle if reminds me a little of the Mortal Instruments series.
As for the game clue I love it

My choice will be The Muse. If you look very carefully there are crossed pistols (revolvers?) at the top of the cover. That was good enough for me!

There are multiple covers of this book and not all have the dagger/knife on the cover, but luckily the ebook copy I borrowed from the library had the right cover!

I chose to read this book apart from the ATY challenge. I made a list for myself for 2018 of series I want to finally start/complete that I had added years ago. This was one of them. And now I will try to fit them to a prompt when possible :)

I enjoyed the game of Clue as a child, but it was not a favorite. I enjoy card games the most. I also do not own Clue so I have not played it in many years.

Reading the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy by Philip Pullman. The first book 'the golden compass fits prompt 41 and the second book 'the subtle knife' fits this one. :)

I'd say yes, especially since there's mention of a hangman and it's about crime solving, it stays in the spirit of Clue.

I got this as an ARC from netgalley, way behind on reading and reviewing it. In any case about a crime so think it fits clue pretty good, not sure there is a murder but close.

I loved clue as a kid, not sure if I should leave that love in the past or try it anew as an adult.

This perfectly fits the topic. I like the style of writing but not the basic idea of this book (despite of not liking Trump). I picked the book because I needed it in another challenge too, most of my Agatha Christies would have fit, too.
The German "Clue" is called Cluedo and I quite loved to play it as a kid.

I have read Girl Waits With Gun, too! A friend on Litsy was reading it, and I saw it had a revolver on the cover. It looked interesting, and it was! Really fun and also historically well-researched.

I chose this book because it had a candlestick on the cover and because I am obsessed with Neil Gaiman and want to read everything he has written. I was also a big fan of this movie.

I had fun with this task. Upon visiting my library, I strolled to the new book section and browsed through all of the offerings until I found one that fulfilled this objective.

I am so excited that I accidentally came across a $2 copy of Interpreter of Maladies!

I am even more excited that I realized it has a CANDLESTICK on the front! Great find!
