KIM DAHEE has always been a bubbly kid. She's talkative, in a sensible way, and she's kind. She's funny too. Always ready with a story to tell and able to effortlessly keep up conversation without becoming too overbearing, it seems like Dahee was born to be a celebrity. So when she enrolled into an arts school, most of her friends thought that she would join the music stream and later become an idol. But then she entered the visual arts stream instead and surprised them all. It's not that she didn't want to be an idol, Dahee grew up looking up to girl groups like Adonis and hoping that one day she would be able to stand next to them on stage. But to be an idol, you need more than just perfect variety show personality, you need talent. And see, Dahee doesn't have that.
NOW SHE'S working as an "intern" makeup artist for Eclipse. "Intern" because they don't accept part-timers, but her mom, the one in charge of all their backstage prep, felt they were shorthanded and Dahee begged to help. And well, nobody had a problem with it because she turned out to be really good at her job and was really nice to have around. Besides applying makeup and fixing hair, Dahee also helps to run errands backstage, which she happily agrees to because it gives her a chance to at least catch a glimpse of her precious idols. OF COURSE she's upset she doesn't currently stand a chance of realising her dream, but she hasn't given up yet. Right now Dahee's cramming her schedule to the brim with vocal and dance lessons and although it's been a total of ten (10) years since she last touched the piano, she's back at it again. It's not enough to make her a star, especially not in times like this, but hey, let the girl dream.

Your resident psycho. Kent’s beloved pain in the ass. The Southern’s rebels’ trigger-happy wildcard. Jung Seunghwa had been pretty much terrorising Central Kent’s alleyways for 7 years, ever since he stole drugs, got the shit beaten out of him, and still didn’t get the hint. He’s dabbled in almost every crime in the book — drug dealing, gambling, armed robbery, and, of course, homicide — and he has a thick file dedicated just to him sitting in Central Kent’s police department to show for it. He didn’t start out as a professional lawbreaker, obviously. He was just like he is now, a reckless kid who doesn’t know how to back down from a fight or how to lie fast enough, just that he didn’t have the Southern rebels covering his ass for him. But, to his credit, he learnt fast and he learnt well.
What that meant was: how you beat him up today will be how he beats up another tomorrow. The gangsters who knocked teeth out of him, the policemen who broke his arm, his father who left him bleeding in a ditch, his mother who beat him with a hot fire iron — they all taught him the not-so-delicate art of how to hit someone where it hurts. So if you’re wondering why he fights with zero consideration for technique, this is why: he’s never been trained to.
What he has been trained do includes perfecting the art of crude pub flirting and swimming through blood and guts without so much as blinking an eye. (Ok that might be an exaggeration, but let’s not assume there’s a limit to how far he’s willing to go to get the job done.) Ever since he was recruited by the Southern rebels, his devotion to their cause has never faltered once, mostly because he’s never been part of a cause before, and the emotional stability (of sorts) it has provided him is something he would not trade for anything. So that, and the very obvious thrill he derives from participating in bloody activities, has made him the go-to guy whenever the rebels find a job too sick, gross or dirty for the rest of them to willingly take on.
His tendency to commit violent crime is expected, considering his background. But he lacks more than just basic human decency. He lacks self-respect. Why else would he be so willing to throw himself at the lowliest of jobs? (Besides the fact that he’s pretty much addicted to violence, of course.) He has pride, he brags about his victories and jobs well-done, but that’s about all he has. He doesn’t know that children deserve more than a childhood full of abandonment, and that people like him deserve more than violent lives ending with premature deaths. All he knows is that he’s a smart part of a big cause, and even that is more than anything he could have asked for.

Hana’s life had been just fine. She graduated from high school as the top of her cohort and moved to Illéa with her father to study at its best university. Although her father had to sell his old business to afford moving to Illéa with her, she had everything she wanted. It didn’t matter that they couldn’t afford luxuries and she was probably one of the poorest in her class, she had a supportive father, the course of her choice and her dream university. She was happy. Until the Illéan authorities found out about her father’s handicap. They took away his caste four status and made him an eight. It ruined his business. Nobody wanted to work with an eight, no matter how capable he was. But Hana was fine with having to become the breadwinner. She was fine with juggling her studies with work. She was willing to do anything for her father. But nothing was enough.
Her father fell into a cycle of depression and a year later he committed suicide. It changed Hana. Her view of Illéa and it’s society was no longer one of admiration. She was filled with hate and a desire for revenge, and it overwhelmed her. She couldn’t go to class without wanting to burn the lecture theatre down, she couldn’t look at pictures of the royals without wanting to gut them, she couldn’t look at the Illéans around her, all doing nothing against the government, without wanting to scream, “Your silence did this! Your silence killed my father!” So she became a rebel. And being a chemistry genius, she became instantly known for her demolition work and cleaning up after the job.Whatever rage she’s feeling, she hides it pretty well. Hana usually gives off the impression of a laid-back, relaxed and self-assured person. And of course she’s confident, she’s very well aware how good she is at her job. The only thing that can mess with her calmness is dirt. She’s a clean freak. Which is just great, considering her job. But she’s obsessed with cleanliness. She can spend hours scrubbing surfaces or washing her hands. It’s something she tries to keep to herself, lest it ruin her reputation as a sane person, but the longer it goes unchecked the worse it gets. She’s convinced herself she’ll get over it on her own though.

This was because his parents had finally secured jobs in the palace through relatives who had management positions there. So they packed up and left their old life behind. Since then Eunsoo has been raised by a family of palace employees and pretty much lived in the palace, just like them. The moment he was old enough, he too was employed. Firstly as a stablehand, then later as a chef, then a maid, then finally — the queen’s footman. At this point, the whole palace has at least seen him before, if not know him personally.
He’s a good kid, everyone knows that. He’s obedient, he listens well, he works hard, and he knows how to shut up when he has to. Eunsoo may be a cute, bubbly ray of sunshine, but all these years in the palace and as the queen’s footman, he’s learnt how to behave and keep secrets. It troubles him of course, but they trusted him to keep quiet, so he will.

CAMERA 08BORN IN 1993, Bryson Cho was successfully recruited into the task force in 2015, when he was 22. At that time he had already received his degree in a major he didn’t believe in and didn’t know what to do with it. He worked a desk job for 2 weeks before quitting. He was gifted, but in other ways. He lied often, acted well and was smart on his feet, and these “talents” of his caught the eye of a particular professor at his university, who was a retired spy himself. Cho was offered a choice: to continue living the purposeless life of his and waste his talents, or to put them to good use as a task force officer. He wasn’t offered the opportunity to be a spy straight away, but Cho trained hard and a year later, he became one.
Cho is good at his job. He’s caught several illegal time-travellers in his short time being a spy and hasn’t suffered any severe injuries from it. He shows great potential at being an amazing spy, but the same thing can’t be said about his teamwork. Cho is always jealous about something, and it shows. He’s always pointing out everyone’s minuscule faults and trying to prove that he’s much better — much smarter, much faster, much classier. And of course it’s bound to piss someone off.
But nobody can deny he’s got style. Maybe he’s old-fashioned but who else in the entire task force can run 3 miles up and 3 miles down Currahee without getting a single speck of dirt on their shiny patent shoes? Come on, who else looks this good in metal-rim glasses? And who else consistently turns down fistfights in the name of class? Cho knows appearances count, and he sure knows how to keep his.

Besides the fact that he’s won “Most Likely To Break The Law Rather Than Enforce It” for three consecutive years now, Beom Hyunsik isn’t all that special. He was a normal Korean boy who didn’t do extremely well at anything. His grades were so-so, he was an amateur artist and he was average at sports. Maybe the only thing he did well in was making friends. Because with Hyunsik, there’s no pressure or competition. He’s too lazy to keep grudges and can’t find anything to fight for, so naturally he became everyone’s safety net. And nobody says it aloud but everyone knows — you feel safe around him because if you thought you were doing bad, he’s worse.
But does Hyunsik care? Of course not. He somehow survived military academy and is now an official Abstrego Militia enforcer. But it really doesn’t matter what his job is. As long as he’s paid, he’s fine. Which explains his extremely laid back attitude towards his work. He passed his tests back in the academy, so he’s competent enough, but he’s no way close to being an excellent soldier. But he doesn’t show any intention of being one either. He’s more interested in partying his nights away and reporting to work late with a hangover. He might get fired (or killed) one day very soon, but does Hyunsik care? Of course not.
As for his opinion about androids? He treats them just like he would with any human. And oh they don’t have feelings? Great, one thing less to worry about. Besides, you could say Hyunsik is almost an android. On a physical level, he does have a biomechatronic arm. (Why? He wasn’t paying attention and he got shot. Did it teach him anything? Only that hospital food sucks.) On an emotional level, does it look like Hyunsik has feelings? He does, but he’s already built himself a reputation for being someone too lazy to feel anything. Even during his beloved parties, he’s not usually the life of the party. He’s usually the laid-back dude who makes his way from clique to clique, enjoying mild conversation and somehow knowing everyone. But well, if Hyunsik has a superpower, it’d be that — somehow knowing everyone. Or his consistent ability to just not care.
Hajoon dropped out of college because he doesn’t need a degree to know you’re up to no good. Who needs a degree when you have connections everywhere? And the Internet? Hajoon might not have had all of the fanciest technology at his expense, but all he really needed was social media and a mouth. And a cute face. That helped too. Maybe it was because he belonged to the poor side of town, and from there he’d learnt how to talk his way into people’s hearts and form strong relationships. After years of practice, Hajoon can now walk into a room full of strangers and leave an hour later best friends with them all. He doesn’t really have a secret as to how he does it. Maybe it’s just natural talent, or maybe it’s just something about his personality that makes people instantly feel safe and friendly. Besides, Hajoon doesn’t make friends and gain information because it’s his job, he does it because he genuinely loves people and it’s his job because he’s good at it.great memory + nice personality + "i'll do anything to keep my people safe"
HONG MINHEE 16 + HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT
Just because her family has lived in America for four generations doesn’t mean that their expectations have dropped. Minhee may think she’s an all-American girl and worships football, but her parents are far from putting down their stereotypical Asian expectations. She’s been told to become either a doctor, lawyer or rich CEO ever since she was old enough to read. And even though her heart doesn’t lie in any of those, Minhee knows there’s no other way to keep her parents happy, and that’s what she cares about the most. So even though she’s the biggest fan of baseball (and probably the best player in her school), she’s set her eyes on becoming a doctor. And if she isn’t smart enough to make it, she’ll work all day and night until she is. She’s okay with giving up baseball for it too. Maybe.
She can’t help but wonder if somehow in the future being a professional baseball player isn’t all that bad. She’d really love to see a future like that, where she can do what she truly loves and keep her parents happy at the same time. But time-travelling is illegal (and no way is Minhee doing anything illegal, she’s too innocent for that), so all there is to do is wait and see.

He really doesn’t know why he chose this job. Maybe it was because he’d spent two months looking for jobs to no avail and panicked. So here he is, back at the university he’d studied in, now as an employee, working the first job he got accepted for. To him, he’s just using this to job to pay off rent and keep himself alive while he looks for a better job he’s more qualified for. But he’s 26 now and he’s been working this job ever since he was 23. It’s not that he can’t seem to find a better job (he has), it’s just — he’s gotten attached.
Not all of the students are younger than him — heck, some are as old as his dad — but looking after people feels more satisfying that working a 9 to 7 desk job. And being constantly surrounded by so many people gets tiring sometimes, but it’s better than the dead silent offices he’s seen. He doesn’t like to admit it, but this “accidental” job has become his life, and he’s happy with it.
He’s made many new friends working this job — both colleagues and students. That’s just one of the perks of being young enough to pass as a student. Though he’s getting a little tired of being called everyone’s “bro.” And “grandpa.” (Look, he’s happy with his job. He really is. But sometimes he gets tired.)

He’s four years away from graduating, but he’s probably already one of the most powerful in his class. There, it’s been said. The thing is, everyone knows it’s because he was born with it. His family has a long history of air and fire class prodigies, so it’s no surprise that Dojun is one too. But natural talent can only get you so far, and it’s also not a surprise that Dojun’s already the family disappointment.
Maybe it’s because he was neglected as a child, maybe being The Disappointment is the only way he knows how to gain attention, or maybe he’s just lazy — for whatever reason, Dojun is, frankly, stupid. He’s not that fast on his feet, he can’t do math, he can’t recall all of the last twelve council members, the only thing he can do is stand there and let his power do it’s thing — and yes, he stands there because frankly summoning huge cyclones and throwing things around are the only ways he knows how to use his powers.Alright, maybe he knows another method, which is something along the lines of collapsing someone’s lungs, but his parents told him to keep it a secret.
Well at least Dojun is a nice person. Granted, he’s moody and acts like a child (nobody can tell if he’s doing it on purpose, though), but he’s not cruel or manipulative. He tries to help whoever he can with their affinities (honestly he needs help too but at least he’s got the basics right) and is usually the one who tries to cheer up his fellow trainees whenever they fail (because "it’s okay, me too”), so while he does have a reputation for being wasted potential, he is known to be kind. On good days, at least. Nobody knows why he’s so moody. Maybe it’s his parents’ neglect. Maybe it’s just his affinity.
Of course his family want him to take part in the Trials. Every member of his family who had the chance did. Some of them didn’t make the cut, some of them fought and died, and one even won to become the Protector many, many years ago. Now it’s Dojun’s turn. Maybe he’s powerful enough, maybe he might make the cut — maybe. But does he want to? No. He really doesn’t want to die.
Iseul is smart, no one can deny it, but she isn’t exactly known for her elemental control. Iseul was born to two classless parents, but because her grandmother had a water affinity, Iseul didn’t end up like her parents. But her affinity didn’t show until the very day of her fifth birthday, and even then, her parents couldn’t tell if it was just the light playing tricks on their eyes. For a long time, Iseul’s affinity was weak. Her parents weren’t sure if she even had an affinity, and they didn’t know how to train her if she did. So even though she did have an affinity, she was raised like she didn’t.
On her fourteenth birthday, her affinity finally showed itself clearly, in all it’s power. The water in the small lake she was swimming in swirled dangerously and she almost ended up drowning herself. It was traumatic, but it ended her up with the Regime, so Iseul considers it a win. The Regime changed Iseul’s life. For the first time in fourteen years she was dead last in class. Well, not when it came to history, language, science and the likes, but with elemental manipulation, she was about as talented as a newborn baby. But she loved it. For the first time in her life, people were teaching her how to use her abilities and she felt special.
It’s been seven years and Iseul’s passion for her affinity and the elements is still burning strongly. She’s improved tremendously since her first year in the Regime and her vast knowledge can rival her instructors’. But it all came for a price. Iseul was devoted to her studies. She practically lived in the library, devouring information off books. And what she called “a break” was extra lessons with her trainers, practicing all sorts of tricks and methods. She didn’t go out to party or make friends. She was practically a hermit. But recently things have changed.
Her trainers and instructors have been noticing a change in her questions. Ever since she turned twenty she’s been developing an interest in the “dark arts,” especially human manipulation. Before, her devotion to Councilwoman Jian Xifeng was just motivation for her to work harder on her elemental manipulation, but now it’s been encouraging her to find a loophole in the law and find a way to bring back human manipulation. Recently Iseul has been going around in secret, forming connections and making friends, building up a cult of sorts, dedicated to the practice of human manipulation. And with the chance to become Protector right in front of her, Iseul’s been working harder than ever.
SEO MINHYUK ━ 20 + KILLER KING : MAKNAE + DANCE + RAP
Minhyuk probably didn't do too bad for his booting evaluation. He can rap, sing, and dance - and very well, at that - so what's there not to like? The live audience liked him, the judges liked him, and netizens were impressed. But that's probably not going to last very long. See, Minhyuk has a whole lot of stage presence and skill, but off the stage, he doesn't have any variety sense to save his life. None. At all. He's shy, he doesn't have any interesting talents (or hasn't found any, at least), and all he does is cling to his best friend in Killer King (who, for the record, chose not to participate in The Unit). It's really funny, because just like how five whole years of constant promotion hasn't done his group any favours, it seems to have done just about as much for Minhyuk's introversion. And he's not too sure why he's here either. Maybe it's to prove to everyone that he's more than just the kid who hides behind his bandmates and that he can take care of himself just fine, but if he's going to keep on talking as much as a rock, he's got a long way left to go.
Eunhye doesn't look like a singer, and she doesn't act like one either. She's very pretty, that's given, but she looks like she's here to tackle someone to the ground and rip the rugby ball out of their hands, not belt out high notes in a shimmering dress. It's no wonder why the moment she walked onto stage with her "tomboy swagger" and "girl crush" looks, everyone assumed she was a dancer or rapper. Until she opened her mouth and began singing with a voice that might just be able to stand a chance against Ailee's that is (though let's be real, nobody can beat Ailee).
The funny thing is, Eunhye can't dance or rap. Not to save her life. And maybe that's fine because she's still got many opportunities to learn, but let's be real, Eunhye isn't going anywhere with her attitude. She's a nice girl who's funny and can serve up any look you want, but criticism is probably her greatest weakness. Her ego is just to huge and fragile for her to accept any sort of criticism without either crying or firing back with criticism of her own. The irony is that she's also usually the one calling out everyone else for their mistakes and pressuring them to work harder. It's annoying, but everyone has their thorns.And maybe Eunhye's just tend to be sharper because she didn't accidentally break her teammate's ribs during that rugby game back in high school. Especially not after they'd just called her out for her attitude the previous day. But well, nobody knows because her filthy rich parents paid for everything to be kept hush-hush.
JANG EUNJEONG 18 + 4TH GRADE + MONVOISIN
culinary magic: because what the fuck do you call "cooking eggs with your eyes"? limitations: she'd have to look at them directly and they'd have to be uncooked eggs because it wouldn't be called egg-cooking magic if it worked on things besides eggs, would it?
Eunie (that's Eunjeong + cutie, which also happens to be her most common nickname) is the definition of pure. She smiles constantly, doesn't get dirty jokes and always thinks positively, because, well, sunny side up. Thinking about it, her entire life seems to be a huge egg joke. She's as edgy as an egg and just as easy to crack. She cried for days when she first entered Monvoisin and realised she wasn't ever getting out - not with her trait - and she cried for weeks ever since she looked at an egg and it fried itself. (Laugh all you want, but she was eleven and that was fucking traumatic.) Honestly, she'd still be crying now if she had any tears left for it.
But well, it's been seven years ever since that traumatic incident, and she's gotten used to it - the fact that yes, egg cooking, of all things, is her trait. In fact, Eunie's become a great cook. And although she picked it up mostly because she had to find some way to live on her own in the dorm, it's also because if nature chose to give her the power of cooking something she's allergic to, fuck nature. She's going to get a way out of this house one way or another. If not because of her trait, then become of her hard work. Just watch her.
ADELE LANG & 30 & RESCUE INSTR
MOLECULAR IMMOBILISATION: the ability to slow down an unlimited number molecules of objects and organisms, giving the same effect as time stopping, but only through touch. The user will also suffer the effects of what they induce. The longer the ability is in use, the higher the risk of the paralysis becoming permanent for both the user and the affected subject. ADELE WAS THE ZERO TO HERO STORY OF HER TIME. Ever since the beginning, she was a Monvoisin kid. It wasn't that her trait sucked or anything - in fact it was super kick-ass, and still is, actually - but she was from a non-mutant family, and the only time she ever heard of mutants was from her big brother's X-Men comics. And then, surprise, "You're a mutant, Adele." And for the next ten years "I'm a what?" pretty much summed up her entire life in St Columba. (view spoiler)
In the end, she graduated as fifth in her year, and it's safe to say that everyone was more than shocked. Fifth place wasn't legend-worthy amazing, but considering she was Adele freaking Lang, fifth place was pretty legend-worthy amazing. And that's why she came back, to repay St Columba for giving her a chance. It took her ten years to be worth it, but it never gave up on her and that's what matters.
Today, she's a rescue instructor. She's probably not the best kind of instructor out there, but hey, the kids seem to like her and they're doing fine. She pretends not to know that they like her better than most other teachers, but she knows. I mean, she's pretty laid back, she's funny, and most importantly, she understands. Whatever they're going through, she's been through it too. Maybe they don't have it as bad, or she didn't suffer as much as they do now, but come on, if she made it, they can too.

Kim Taeha, known mostly as "Wine Boy" ever since the legendary performance where he played Jesus Christ and actually turned water to wine, was nominated to be "most likely to win the lottery but lose the ticket," along with "better cheatsheet than Wikipedia." I mean, who else can memorise that many chemical formulas? No wonder he's been first for the last five years. But at the same time, "Kim Taeha is actually smart???" probably stands a chance of becoming one of the new seven wonders of the world. I mean, this is the party-going, almost-died-from-alcohol-poisoning fuckboy Kim Taeha we're talking about. Him? 1st place? Academically? I think the fuck not. That's funnier than all of his pickup lines combined. But yet there he is, sitting ever-so-gloriously on his throne, making everyone who's ever said "effort never betrays you" bow to him on their knees.
But it's true. Effort never betrays you. If you think Wine Boy hasn't put in enough effort to keep his five-year 1st place streak then you're wrong. As a young boy from a non-mutant family, learning that he was a mutant was probably the best day of his life. And from that moment, a Korean Hermione Granger with better style (and swag amirite) was born. He was probably more committed to St. Columba than anyone else in his year at that time. Sure, he had friends, he was part of the "cool gang," he had his fun, but he'd spent twice as many nights up awake studying and practicing than anyone else. He gave up his sleep and health and common sense for his grades, but sometimes alchemy doesn't work like that. So he finished third in both first and second grade, and ended up losing both his legs from the knees down. Yeah, Kim Taeha's a real genius.

You could say Erika's a perfectionist. She did sob her eyes out when it was revealed that she wasn't first, but second. She just wanted a perfect seven-year 1st place streak, was that too much to ask for? It's been a while since then and while she's not crying about it anymore, she's still hella pissed. So if you can't find her burying her head into books and harassing her teachers into answering all of her questions, be sure to check the training room because that's more home to her than her own dormitory. (In fact, it's more home to her than anything, because really, why else did she choose to fly all the way to space? She doesn't have much of a home back on Earth, if that's not obvious enough.)

If you somehow haven’t heard of Park Jaein, you’ve probably heard of “The Baddest Bitch of INSA,” and that’s basically Jaein. He’s the unbelievably shameless Grade 7 guy who somehow, against all odds managed to become the SRC’s secretary and even more surprisingly, second in his year — in the most competitive, trigger-happy saboteur-filled sector to exist, Collins. Speaking of Collins, he apparently fathers the entire sector because he’s magically summoned with every Collins-directed diss to very positively fight you. (Honestly nobody denies that it’s Jaein who’s the one starting all these inter-sector fights at this point.) And yes that doesn’t sound very fatherly, but nobody tells “The Baddest Bitch of INSA” what to do.
ENTER: MAXIMILIANUS SEONG KYUNGMO. Yeah, he hates his name too. Honestly what were his parents thinking? Maximilianus? In this day and age? When kids can't even be bothered to spell "m8"? And Kyungmo? That's got to be the ugliest name anyone has ever heard. But whatever, Max has given up on trying to spell his name right and he's moved on to the awesome career that will definitely lead him to riches: ghosthunting.
Well that's how he started off, anyway. He's since expanded his expertise to cover almost everything supernatural. Ghosts? Mermaids? The revenant-possessed possum in your neighbour's backyard? He's got you covered. On tape, too, because of course he's going to record himself mumbling some bullshit theory to himself before getting spooked and tripping over himself trying to run away, screaming all the while. Yeah, Max is kind of a wimp. A wimp who can't face up to nonbelievers or refrain from screaming in just one video, but he's getting somewhere.
His Youtube channel for his "supernatural investigation" adventures has been gaining quite a following lately, though he's not exactly sure why. Maybe it's the sudden "monster hunters" trend that's been going on around town (a trend that he's been riding since before it was cool, for the record) or maybe it's because his bullshit theories aren't as bullshit anymore. Regardless, he's been spending all of his savings and forsaking his studies for this hobby of his, it's about time he gets the attention he deserves.
Nineteen years ago, a god let his favourite qilin reincarnate as a human (or, a qilin who thought he was completely human until he realised he was actually a qilin who could switch into either human or glorified giraffe mode). He probably didn't expect it to turn out an unnoticed Soundcloud rapper by the name JaySIN who still lives in his mother's basement with an exclusive diet of instant noodles. Jinhyuk, though mostly known as Jason or simply Jase, isn't living the awesome life he was supposed to be living.
But it's ok, he tells himself and anyone bothered to listen. He'll just keep on making music and trying to find a "real job," all whilst trying not to awake his inner giraffe in public. And well, things are going just fine for him so far. He's perfected the art of using his baby cheeks to their fullest potential and winning the hearts of all the neighbourhood grannies. So yeah, he's been able to survive on purely charity and hospitality.
But, yeah, it's ok. He's just gonna keep on chillin.
