November is here and with it we have quite a few adaptations hitting theaters and television. Here is a look at what to expect this month.
Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood About the book: A fictionalized account of Grace Marks, a maid who murdered her employer and his mistress in Canada in 1843. A stablehand who was her accomplice and who claimed she put him up to it was hung for the crime, while she ended up in a lunatic asylum. Available on Netflix
Blade of the Immortal by Hiroaki Samuri About the graphic novel: Manji, a ronin warrior of feudal Japan, has been cursed with immortality. To rid himself of this curse and end his life of misery, he must slay one thousand evil men! His quest begins when a young girl seeks his help in taking revenge on her parents' killers...and his quest won't end until the blood of a thousand has spilled!
Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman About the book: Elio, extremely well-read, sensitive who, although practiced in having to accept his parents' summer guests at their Italian seaside villa, is slammed by an unexpected provocation when, in the summer of his seventeenth year, a male graduate student arrives, and his obvious intelligence and charm are matched by an undisguised sexiness. What is disguised, at least initially, is the attraction the boy and the graduate student feel for each other. Once the games are stopped, however, and once their mutual desire is acknowledged, a torrid summer ensues--one that will live in the teenager's memory forever.
Justice League published by DC Comics About the graphic novel: The Dark Knight, facing a threat more powerful than he can handle alone, must trust inexperienced superheroes, including Superman, The Flash, and Green Lantern.
Murder On the Orient Express by Agatha Christie About the book: Just after midnight, the famous Orient Express is stopped in its tracks by a snowdrift. By morning, the millionaire, Samuel Edward Ratchett lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times. His door is locked from the inside. Without a shred of doubt, one of his fellow passengers is the murderer. Isolated by the storm, detective Hercule Poirot must find the killer among a dozen of the dead man's enemies, before the murderer decides to strike again.
Wonder by R.J. Palacio About the book: Ten-year-old Auggie Pullman, who was born with extreme facial abnormalities and was not expected to survive, goes from being home-schooled to entering fifth grade at a private middle school in Manhattan, which entails enduring the taunting and fear of his classmates as he struggles to be seen as just another student.
