I think anyone who likes harry potter will like this book too. I heard it has some similar elements in it :)
that is awesome, since I've been looking for a book that has some harry potter esque feels to it. Im excited to start it ,since ive just received my copy.will we be doing chapter discussions after so many pages? or just when were done with the book?
we'll have chapter discussions and then at the end of the month, we will give a group rating and review.

Each week they'll be a set of chapter discussions. There are no specific topic questions but I might throw one or two in there to keep conversations going, otherwise you may talk freely about the book within the chapter range of that week to limit spoilers for those who might not be fast paced readers or who just haven't gotten to that part of the book yet.
For the first week of January (Jan. 1-7) you can discuss the book regarding chapters 1-6. Only chapters 1-6 until I come back with the next chapter range. So discussions are now open.

You can check your local library or even get the overdrive app and your library might have the ebook available through that
So far, this books is blowing my mind, I had not heard of it until they announced that this would be the book club pick. The main 4 characters are just a lot of fun and as you go throught the first 6 chapters you get a good understanding of who the characters are. I have to say that Chichi is one of my top favorite characters at the moment. I just dont have a good feeling with the two main male characters Orlu and Sasha, I just have a feeling that they will backstab her (Sunny) later on in the book. What do you guys think?
Only read to chapter 4 but I like chichi the best as well. I’m Hesitant about Sasha at this point but we shall see.

Opposite can be said about Orlu though, I liked him when he was first introduced but i dont know, he just seems fishy to me with how overly secretive he is. Which i get its a big deal and everything but Chichi is not as overly sensitive
This is a minor spoiler nothing major but to keep the conversations going and get opinions, here is your first discussion question. DO NOT GET POLITICAL!
In the first couple chapters you see Sunny get picked on and bullied for the color of her skin (her being albino) and the fact she was born and lived in America for a time (even though she is African like her peers) compare this situation to other books with similar topics on race and bullying and find a connection between said book chosen. Whether YA or not.

Starting Now you can talk about chapters 7-12
you can still answer the discussion question but if you comment about a spoiler please put a spoiler alert first in all caps before continuing with your comment

Hey guys. I’m going to try to find the novel before the end of the month and then just read up to where we are if everyone is okay with that!
Alright everyone. I'm just going to let you guys talk about the book now in it's entirety. Thoughts, feelings, opinions etc. just if you are about to spoil a part in the book, be courteous and write SPOILER ALERT in all caps before giving the spoiler. This is for your own safety.

Was I the only one who wasn’t impressed with the ending? It felt so watered down or underwhelming compared to what I was expecting.

Plus I agree with you, that ending had so much build up to it that it was going to be this great big thing and it just kind of just laid there, there was no fizzle to it at all. I was expecting so much from the beginning and now im just meh over it all
