Today's post is on The Ancient Magus' Bride, volume 2 by Kore Yamazaki. It is the first in her Ancient Magus' Bride series. It is 176 pages long and is published by Seven Seas. The cover has the two main characters, Chise and Elias, on it. The intended reader is someone who likes urban fantasy and shonen manga. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of Chise. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Great power comes at a price...
Chise Hatori's life has recently undergone shocking change. As a sleigh beggy--a person capable of generating and wielding tremendous magical power--she has transformed from an unwanted child to a magician's apprentice who has been introduced to fae royalty. But Chise's newly discovered abilities also mean a cruel fate awaits her.
Review- We pick up just where we left off with Chise being held by a stranger with a knife at her throat. In this volume we learn why Elias bought her to begin with. As a Sleigh Beggy she is a fount of magical power and that she would have a very short life. But Elias wants to try and save her, for reasons unknown. Chise helps the trapped spirits move on but she uses too much magic and hurts herself. Elias knows what to do and she recovers. The volume ends with a villain appearing, who seems to be the one pulling strings from the background and is pretty creepy. Chise is injured and Elias looks very scary in the last panel. The art is very lovely in this series. I look forward to seeing why Elias is called the Thorn Child in the next volume.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Punch! volume 3 by Rie Takada. It is the first volume in her Punch! series. It is 208 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has the second male lead Ruo on it. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo manga and funny characters. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Elle. There is no foul language, mild sexual content, and mild violence in this manga. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- It's time for Elle's boyfriend Kazuki to make his pro debut! If he wins this fight, he gets to take a shot at his Ruo. One the flip side, if he loses he gets kicked out of the gym. Thought she's against he fight at first, Elle eventually gives in to Kazuki's pure determination. With Elle in Kazuki's corner, winning seems like it's a sure thing- that is, until the rigorous training begins to take its toll on his body. Will Ell's love be enough to get him back on his feet and on the road to victory?
Review- Only the first quarter is on Punch! the rest of the volume is a series of one-shot by the author. But we get a good conclusion to Elle and Kazuki's story. Kazuki proves that he wants the life of a boxer and Elle is won over to his dream. I wanted to see more of their life as boxer and trainer, I wanted to see something about Ruo finally giving up on Elle romantically, I wanted more from the last volume of Punch! But I did not get any of those things and that lowered my rating for this volume. It is still a good series and I did enjoy the one-shots that were most of this volume but I was still disappointed in this volume as a whole. I like Takada as a manga-ka and I hope that Shojo Beat will get more of her series. A nice, short series that was cute and fun.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on The X-Files Origins: Devil's Advocate by Jonathan Maberry. It is 352 pages long and is published by Imprint. The cover is dark with X made out of different objects likes nails or hammers. The intended reader is someone who is a fan of the X-Files. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of Scully mostly but with some scenes from other characters to add to the plot. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the dust jacket- The X-Files Origins: Devil's Advocate will explore the teen years of Dana Scully, the beloved character depicted in the cult-favorite TV show The X-Files. Her story is set in the spring of 1979, when serial murder, the occult, and government conspiracy were highlighted in the news. The book will follow Scully as she experiences life-changing events that set her on the path to becoming an FBI agent.
Fifteen-year-old Dana Scully has bigger problems than being the new girl in school. Dana has always had dreams. Sometimes they’ve even come true. Until now, she tried to write this off as coincidence. But ever since her father’s military career moved the family across the country to Craiger, Maryland, the dreams have been more like visions. Vivid, disturbing, and haunted by a shadowy figure who may be an angel . . . or the devil.
When a classmate who recently died in a car accident appears before Dana, her wounds look anything but accidental. Compelled by a force she can’t name, Dana uncovers even more suspicious deaths?and must face the dangerous knowledge that evil is real.
But when a betrayal of faith makes her question everything, she begins to put her faith in being a skeptic.
Review- The second origins book is just as much fun as the first one. We start with Scully still getting used to her town. Scully and her older sister Melissa are the new girls but other than that everything is okay, not great but okay. Scully has been having very intense dreams and then she has a vision of a murdered girl and of course no one really believes her. That spurs her into action and the plot gets going from there. Maberry clearly knows and loves The X-Files and he brings that to this book. With he uses the plot to capture the feelings of an X-File case with lots of questions and information but no clear answers and shadowy people in the background running the show. I enjoyed seeing a young Scully begin to questions everything including herself and where those questions took her. I hope that we can get more origins books because these two were really great.
I give this novel a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this book with my own money.
Today's post is on Claymore volume 18: The Ashes of Lautrec by Norihiro Yagi. It is the eighteenth the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the first seventeen volumes to understand the story. It is 191 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover has Riful and Dauf standing it. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- After finding herself mysteriously drawn to the lair of Riful of the West, Clare made contact with the fused form of Rafaele and Luciela, which Awakened and transformed into the terrible being know as the Destroyer, Now, the entire island of Lautrec is subject to its dreadful, relentless assault. It seems that nothing, and no one, can halt the devastation. but there may be one force that is greater still...
Review- As with the previous volume we pick right up where the last one left off. Riful is fighting one of the twins and she is losing but then the Destroyer makes the other twin lose her mind. Priscilla makes the other twin lose it because she is just so dangerous. We get to see a lot of Priscilla being tougher and faster then everybody else and when Clare sees Priscilla, she almost fully Awakenings on the spot. Priscilla has stayed with Raki because some way that he smelled and she followed that smell to Clare. So Priscilla has been looking for Clare without knowing why and Clare cannot stop herself from fighting Priscilla. There is going to be much blood in the last eight volumes but I ma curious about how Clare is going to defeat Priscilla when she is so much more powerful.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Volume 5: Rival by Yuu Watase. It is 189 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has the two main characters on it facing the reader. The intended reader is someone who likes historical fantasy, high fantasy, romance, and shojo stories. There is mild foul language, mild sexuality, and violence in this story. The story is told from third person close of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Honor among Thieves? Miaka Yuki is a ordinary teen suddenly transported into the world of a book. To save her newly adoptive country of Hong-Nan, she must scour the nation for the remaining three of the seven Celestial Warriors who will help her in her quest. But the search takes Miaka into the lair of bandits and to a plague-cursed town where she has to die to survive!
Review- The blurb does not go into the real meat of this volume which is trying to get Tamahome back from Qu-Dong. He went there to wait until Miaka found the last of the seven warriors and she does in this volume. But because Yui, Miaka's best friend, has also fallen in love with Tamahome she does not want him to leave. Her general promises that she can make Tamahome love her instead of Miaka. So most of the volume is really about Miaka deciding what she is going to do now. There is good fight scenes in this volume with some of the newer warriors getting to show their power and Chichiri's brains are on show for this volume and I liked that a lot. I think that this love spell that Tamahome is under if going to slow the plot down but we will see in the next volume.
I give this volume a Five out Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Waiting for Spring volume 3 by Anashin. It is 176 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover is green with Wakamiya-kun. As it is the third in a series you need to have read the first two. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo, high school manga, and sweet stories. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. The story is told from the perspective of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Mitsuki overcomes some hiccups in her friendship with Towa, and the two grown even closer! But before Mitsuki can celebrate, her old friend Aya is on the offense, vying for her attention. Mitsuki meets a new rival as well, and every day is as busy as every play. Meanwhile, with the Inter-High prelims just around the corner, Towa and his team train hard to go up against the prestigious Hojo High School's star-player: Aya!
Review- Mitsuki, I think, is getting a little better about picking up on things but not much. She knows that she likes Towa and she knows that someone else does too but she is still clueless about Towa or Aya's feelings towards her. So Towa and Aya are now facing off not just on the court but over Mituski too. She thinks that Aya is just playing with her because he thinks that it is funny but he is serious and I am very curious about how Mitsuki is going to feel when she realizes that. She has never thought of him in that way and Towa is the one who has her heart. Towa knows how he feels and I think that he realizes Mitsuki likes him back but with everything going on he has not had the time to really talk to her about it. So much Drama but it is cute so I will forgive it.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on SP Baby by Maki Enjoji. It is the first in her SP Baby doulogy. It is 183 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has our two main characters on it. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo manga and humorous love stories. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of Tamaki. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Tamaki Hasegawa misses an interview for a much-needed job in order to stop an assault on a man running for his life!
The man- Kagetaro Sugo, the prime minster's nephew- then asks Tamaki to become his bodyguard.
Tamaki isn't sure she's cut out to be a bodyguard, but Kagetora has another reason for wanting to hire her.
Unbeknownst to her, they've met before...
Review- A very cute start to a short series. Tamaki is a down on her luck woman with a younger brother to take care of. But she also cannot stop herself from helping others whenever she sees it. So we have our plot. Tamaki is very cute and I like her a lot, she is good at being abodyguard but Tora does not help her with that. He still has not told her where or how they met before and I am very curious about it. Tora also has something odd about him, he cannot feel most things like pain or warmth but of course when Tamaki touches him he feels everything. There are more things in way of their love story likes Tora having a fiancee but this manga so true love will win out!
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Queen's Quality volume 2 by Kyousuke Motomi. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. It is the second in Kyousuke's new series, Queen's Quality, you need to have read the first volume and previous series in order to understand what is going on. The cover has the main female character on it looking at the reader. The intended reader is someone who has read QQ Sweeper, likes shojo manga, and supernatural love stories. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the two main characters moving as the story goes on. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Fumi Nishioka lives with Kyutaro Horikita and his family of 'Sweepers,' people who specialize in cleaning the minds of those overcome by negative energy and harmful spirits. Fumi has always displayed mysterious abilities, but will those powers be used for evil when she begins to truly awaken as a Queen?
In a bid to move forward, Kyutaro and Fumi share a sweet secret! Later, when they go to The Inside with Secdai to cleanse Ms. Hayashi's Mind Vault, will they succeed in saving her? And what is Bug Handler Ataru plotting in order to turn Fumi into the Black Queen?
Review- We pick up where the last novel left off with Fumi still trying to deal with having the Black Queen in the back of her mind. Kyutaro and the other Sweepers are trying their best to help her and to discover how to stop the Black Queen from reappearing. Kyutaro does his part to help Fumi y bonding more with her and helping her continue to learn as a Sweeper. But Fumi and us get to see some of Fumi's past and it is rough but Fumi will have to deal with it and so much more. Not as much character or polt development in this volume but the story is moving along and I am still fully invested into this series and the characters.
I give this volume Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Wake up Sleeping Beauty: volume 1 by Megumi Morino. It is 192 pages long and is published by Kodansha. The cover has to the two main characters on it with Tetsu looking at the reader and Shizu sleeping on his shoulder. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo manga, romance, and a little spiritual subplot. There is no foul language, no sex, and no voilence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of Tetsu. From the back of the book- The Awakening
High schooler Tetsu Misato is hardworking, frugal, and easily scared, but he commits to a part-time job at the mansion on the hill- the one that's rumored to be haunted. As he toils away, he notices a building separate from the estate, and the mysterious girl who lives with it: Shizu Karasawa. Tetsu slowly becomes enchanted by Shizu lonely smile, but by their second encounter, he quickly finds himself in over his head. There's an unsettling feeling he can't quite shake, but there's love there, too.
Review- This is an interesting start to a shojo series. Tetsu is working hard for some reason and does not want to go to college. His father wants him to and so they make a bet. If Tetsu can keep his spring break job, then he can work. He meets Shizu and he feels sorry for her. She is totally isolated from the world and something is odd about her. The plot did keep me guessing, I was not sure what was going on until the revel at the end of the volume. I liked the characters, I am on board with the plot now but until the big reveal I wasn't, the art is good, and I am very curious about how Tetsu is going to help Shizu because she has quite a problem. The volume ends with Tetsu starting to be her personal housekeeper and Shizu wanting him to be her friend. I am looking forward to seeing where Tetsu and Shizu are going.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Volume 6: Summoner by Yuu Watase. It is 191 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. From the back of the book- Happiness is just a summoning away!
Now that she seems to have gathered all seven of her Celestial Warriors Miaka is ready to summon the god Suzaku, who will grant her three wishes. But Miaka's former best friend, Yui, has become her mortal enemy, and Yui's nefarious General Nakago has a secret plan...
Review- Tamahome is still control of the bad guys but Miaka's face is driving him crazy. So General Nakago tells him to go after her, kill her, and then she wouldn't haunt him any more. Miaka is trying to put a brave face for the other warriors but they know that she's falling apart on the in the inside. But True Love saves the day. Tamahome comes to kill her, of course he can't but the plot twists aren't done yet! One of the Celestial Warriors isn't who he claims to be and the ritual of summoning as been ruined now. A lot happens in way of plot but not much in character development. I want to know what is going on with General Nakago, he has some grand plan but we still have no idea what he is about or what he wants. It ends with Miaka and company going to have to try to fix the summoning and try again.
I give this volume a Five out Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Claymore volume 19: Phantoms in the Heart by Norihiro Yagi. It is the nineteenth the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the first eighteen volumes to understand the story. It is 191 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover has Priscilla as she is transforming on it. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Priscilla relentlessly pursues Clare's destruction, while Deneve and Helen remain just as determined to protect her. But when the combined form of Luciela and Rafaela attacks, Clare and her cohorts are pulled into the twisting mass. Meanwhile, in Ribona, Miria heads east to destroy the Organization. She encounters Rubel and his secret weapons: mysterious warrior twins who may be Alicia and Beth's successors, as well as the Organization's number 10—a deadly fighter who can read Miria's mind.
Review- Priscilla cannot place what about Clare that makes her want to kill Clare so badly but Priscilla is unstoppable. Helen and Deneve are doing everything they can to get Clare away from Priscilla but they are not strong enough to little more than run juts ahead of her. Miria is in a very bad place and maybe dead because she saw her friend, the one that made her start questioning the Organization to begin with, because of number 10. It is not that she can read minds but more that she can control others minds and make them react to what number 10 wants. Clare is about to get something either information or power from the fused form of Reafael and Luciela because they take Clare from Helen and Deneve but what is a mystery for the next volume. Only seven volumes left and I am very curious about how everything is going to end up with the characters and the world in general.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Volume 7: Castaway by Yuu Watase. It is 200 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has the two main characters on it facing looking in the distance with excitement towards something that the reader cannot see. The intended reader is someone who likes historical fantasy, high fantasy, romance, and shojo stories. There is mild foul language, mild sexuality, and violence in this story. The story is told from third person close of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Shipwrecked!
Now that the Seiryu Warriors have ruined their attempt to summon Suzaku, Miaka and her Celestial Warriors are forced to travel to a frozen northern country in hopes of gathering the sacred treasures that will grant them a second chance. Little do they know that they have made new enemies, ones who will stop at nothing to wreak their vengeance!
Review- Picking up where the last volume, the real Chiriko has appeared but the scroll of the Four Gods was destroyed by the Warriors of Seiryu and without it Miaka cannot summon Suzaku. We also learn something very important; the priestess must be a virgin so that means that General Nakago has lied to Yui about being raped. So she is angry at Miaka over a lie. So off they go to Genbu's country to find the objects that are needed but so is Yui and her warriors. Miaka and Tamahome have a serious heart-to-heart about what their relationship is and where they want it go. I enjoyed the character development in this volume and I cannot wait see more of the island they get shipwrecked on in the last few pages.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on If You've Got It, Haunt It by Rose Pressey. It is the first in her Haunted Vintage Mystery. It is 304 pages long and is published by Kensington. The cover is a picture of the shop with the cat Wind Song. The intended reader is someone who likes cozy mysteries. There is no foul language, no sex, and very mild voilence in this book. The story is told from first person close of the main character Cookie. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Cookie Chanel has a passion for fashion--and a murder mystery to solve!
Cookie Chanel has opened her own vintage clothing boutique, It's Vintage, Y'All, in the charming town of Sugar Creek, Georgia. Always on the lookout for stylish second-hand steals, she attends the estate sale of deceased socialite Charlotte Meadows. But she gets a lot more than she bargained for when Charlotte's ghost appears before her--offering fashion advice and begging Cookie to find out who murdered her.
As the persistent poltergeist tags along and a possibly psychic pussycat moves into the shop, Cookie sorts through racks of suspects to see who may be hiding some skeletons in the closet. Do a clothing store owner and a disembodied socialite have a ghost of a chance of collaring a killer--or will Cookie's life be the next one hanging by a thread?
Review- A charming start to a cute series. I really liked all the characters we meet in this volume. Cookie is really funny with a cute take on life, Wind Song is really fun and I want to see more of her. The ghost Charlotte has the most character growth, funny sense she's dead but she does and I really enjoyed it. The mystery is not very hard to figure out, I guessed who that killer was within first them for the first time but that's not why you read this book. You need because the characters are so much fun to spend time with. Pressey makes the characters the point of this cozy and that is what makes an story good, having the characters be the heart, the driving force of the story not the plot. I had a really fun time with this novel and I look forward to seeing Cookie, Wind Song, and the others again.
I give this novel a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this novel with my own money.
Today's post is on Claymore volume 20: Remains of the Dead Claws by Norihiro Yagi. It is the twentieth the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the first nineteen volumes to understand the story. It is 191 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover has some of our heroes surrounded by awakened beings. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Rebel Claymores Deneve, Helen, and Yuma return to the Holy City of Rabona and find it under attack by Yoma hordes. An all-out battle ensues, after which Galatea informs the recently returned Claymores about Miria's solitary and likely doomed quest to bring down the Organization. As Helen and Deneve investigate in separate assays, it becomes clear that the Organization is creating novel and terrifying breeds of Yoma warriors.
Review- Clare is gone, she and what was left of Priscilla are sealed up together and we do not see anything of them in this volume. Most of the volume is about the others fighting in Rabona from an attack of many yoma and awakening beings. The Organization has decided to move against the city and the Claymores hiding there. Miria's fate is left in the balance until the end of the volume and we see that the Claymores still working for the Organization did not kill her. All the Claymores are in rebellion to the Organization now because they have done too much and pushed too far. It has been proven that the Organization is making the yoma and releasing them onto the countryside to kill innocent people. Everything is winding down to end game and I am very curious about what is going on the sphere that has both Clare and Priscilla.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Volume 8: Friend by Yuu Watase. It is 189 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. From the back of the book- A Friend in Deeds
A savage storm shipwrecks Miaka and her Celestial Warriors on a creepy island inhabited by a ruthless matriarchal society that enslaves men! Meanwhile, her former friend Yui and the Seiryu Warriors are within arm's reach of the sacred treasures that Miaka so desperately seeks. Will she arrive too late to summon the god Suzaku and save the nation from Hong-Nan?
Review- This is a very sad volume with a major character death. Most of the volume is about trying to get off the island and back on track for the land of Genbu and the artifacts to summon Suzaku. But with whatever the general for Seiryu is planning, he is getting more dangerous. Yui causes some problems for Tamahome but the real thing is that Nuriko dies in killing a very dangerous warrior of Seiryu. I should have seen it coming because Nuriko has some big character growth over the course of this volume. There is some character growth going on with one of the warriors of Seiryu and I think that he is going to be the one to save Yui from whatever the general is planning. Almost half way down with this intense series and I am starting to wonder how this is going to wrap up.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Claymore volume 21: Remains of the Dead Claws by Norihiro Yagi. It is the twentieth-first the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the first twenty volumes to understand the story. It is 191 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover is a close-up of Miria. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- A battle begins between rebel Claymore warriors and the Organization that created them. When the team of seven notorious rebel fighters is joined by an army of newly minted soldiers loyal to rebel leader Miria, it seems their victory is a foregone conclusion. Then the Organization releases its newest secret weapon: reanimated high-level warriors from past generations of Claymores.
Review- This whole volume is about the fight between the Claymores and the Organization. We see lots of fighting with little character development until we get some new characters but that is fine. The new characters are the things that the Organization has been working on, old powerful Claymores that they have resurrected to fight for them. We get to see a lot of about them from their lives before and what happened to them when they turned but before they could awaken. Raki is protecting the young Claymores from the normal soldiers of the Organizations but other than seeing him we get no new plot. And we see nothing of Claire in this volume. I liked seeing more of what the Organization is doing and what they are planning but there is still so much more to see. The volume ends with one of the resurrected Claymores remembering why she dies and it looks like she is going to finish awakening.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Claymore volume 22: Claws and Fangs of the Abyss by Norihiro Yagi. It is the twentieth-second the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the first twenty-one volumes to understand the story. It is 191 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover is an Awakened One on it. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Rebel Claymores, the Organization that created them, and a host of reanimated top-level warriors clash with savage intensity. The Claymores' demonic impulses are provoked, threatening to destroy their human consciousnesses. Meanwhile, Hysteria, animated by blind vengeance, grows stronger with each attack against her. Is it possible that the rebels will be defeated by their long-dead comrades?
Review- The fights from the previous volume are finished in this one and it ends with a little hinting at what is going where Clare is. Miria comes very close to losing her mind to stop the most powerful of the re-awakened ones but she is stopped and saved by the other Claymores. Really nothing much plot-wise happens in this volume, just fighting, having a ghost of Priscilla appears to scare everyone, then Raki shows up with the younger Claymores. That is the whole volume. I want to get back to Clare and whatever is going on with her and Priscilla. I like seeing the other Claymores be cool but I'm here for Clare and her story. I still Raki does nothing for the story and I do not even like him as a plot device. But the fight scenes were good. I hope that we get back to Clare and her story.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Volume 9: Lover by Yuu Watase. It is 187 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. From the back of the book- A much-loved member of the Celestial Warriors of Suzaku has given his life for the sake of a treasure left behind by the god of the North. The Shentso-Pao is one of the keys to summoning the god Suzaku and having Miaka's most cherished wishes granted. Even if she passes the trials and obtains the treasure, can she hold onto it with the murderous Warriors of Seiryu close on her heels?
Review- We start this volume with Nuriko's funeral and everyone is dealing with her death. The Seiryu general, who is the real villain of this series, is just waiting for Maika and company to finish getting the Shentso-Pao so he can steal it from them. Warriors from bother sides are starting to drop like flies with two deaths on Seiryu's side and one on Suzaku. But the plot gets bigger from there as the General makes Miaka think that he raped her. I don't think he did, not because he wouldn't but I think that Tamahome got to Miaka in time but she believes it and that's what matters. But now we know for sure that Yui was never raped and one of her warriors in love with her. I even like that warrior but I do not believe that it is going to end well for them. Decent volume with both plot and character development and I can't wait to see where we are going next.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Claymore volume 23: Mark of the Warrior by Norihiro Yagi. It is the twentieth-third the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the first twenty-two volumes to understand the story. It is 195 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover has Miria facing something in the distance. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Rebel Warrior Miria penetrates te headquaters of the secret Organization that created her, discovering the appalling truth about Yoma. Meanwhile, human warrior Raki joins the Claymores on the battlefield and seems closer than ever to his goal of reunited with Clare, his Claymore companion. Yet the cycle of violence cannot be stopped- an epic battle is brewing and Priscilla, a powerful force for evil, is back in the fight!
Review- We learn a lot about the history of the Yoma in this volume and how they were created. Miria discovers the beings that Yoma and Claymores are made from and she frees them from the Organization and stops the experiment in this area. Most of the volume is about getting ready for Clare to return to the story. We get to see what happens when a Claymore is made because Clare comes out without the stitches needed to hold her together. The volume ends with Priscilla is back and everything is going to get real from here.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Yona of the Dawn, volume 2 by Mizuho Kusanagi. It is the first in her Yona of the Dawn series. It is 190 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Princess Yona and Hak on it as they are running. The intended reader is someone who likes epic high fantasy, shojo manga, and revenge plots. There is no foul language, no sex, but there is violence in this story. The story is told from third person close mostly of Yona but some of Hak her bodyguard. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- While on the run, Yona and Hak head to Hak's hometown, where she attempts to heal her broken heart. However, she can't rest there for long once she discovers that Su-won may soon becomes king! What will Yona choose to do in the wake of this news?
Review- This volume picks up right there the last left off. Hak and Yona get to his hometown, the Wind Village, and are taken into safety. But Su-won is moving forward with his plans to rule the nation but the Wind Village withholds their support because Hak's grandfather knows that Su-won had something to do with the murder of the previous King. Yona has to chose what she is going to do. Is she going to live a quiet life hiding in the Wind Village or is she going to try and find a priest to see what her destiny should be. I liked how much plot we get in this volume and we get to see that Hak does love Yona but she does not see it not just because of Su-won but because he is hiding it. We get action in this volume as Su-won wants Yona back and Hak dead but we do not get to see why. I cannot wait to read the next volume.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Volume 10: Enemy by Yuu Watase. It is 183 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has the two main characters on it facing facing the reader with excitement. The intended reader is someone who likes historical fantasy, high fantasy, romance, and shojo stories. There is mild foul language, mild sexuality, and violence in this story. The story is told from third person close of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Thinking that her mission has failed, Miaka has run off to the land of Xi-Lang, where a warrior of her archenemy, the God Seiryu, find her! And before the adventure is over, Miaka will find out who are allies, who are enemies, and who is determined to see her dead!
Review- We get to continue dealing with Miaka thinking that she has been raped and that she has no worth anymore. She gets saved by someone who looks just like a Seiyru warrior, who we thought was dead, but of course is not. But he has had a change of heart and does not want to help with the Seiryu cause anymore. The Suzaku warriors are all still trapped in illusion and are slowing dying but I am sure that Miaka, Tamahome, and Suboshi will get them free. This volume is very fast with character development happening but not too much plot wise. More Drama Ahead!
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Today's post is on Claymore volume 24: Army of the Underworld by Norihiro Yagi. It is the twentieth-four the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the first twenty-three volumes to understand the story. It is 193 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover has Clare cutting through a Yoma on it looking cool. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Priscilla, whose monstrous savagery was reawakened in the previous battle, is bent on absorbing the power of those who feel in her wake and destroying the rebel Claymores. Raki and several former top warriors band together with a defensive plan, but even their skills may be no match against Priscilla's poisoned wrath. Meanwhile, the terrifying Yoma-based creature coalescing outside of the Holy City of Rabona may seek to defeat Priscilla... but it may also be seeking to defeat the rebel warriors!
Review- We get to see how powerful Priscilla's true form is as she destroys four out of the seven powerful Awakened Ones that were watching her fight and absorb her power back from the resurrected warriors. The Claymores and Awakened Ones are going to try and work together to stop Priscilla but it is an uneasy alliance. Add in Clare's over-powering rage at being so close to Priscilla and everyone has their hands full. As this series is winding down, we are getting less character growth and longer action scenes in an action manga; not a complaint more of a comment. The volume ends with a powerful, almost abyssally powerful, Awakened One joining the fight. Only three volumes left to bring it all together.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
